Very rarely do we get ice down this way. Usually snow or rain. There’s still a slim possibility of snow happening something like the Canadian showed.

Snow or rain it is and most often just a cold, cold rain, sadly.
CAD_Wedge_NC
6 hours ago, WxKnurd said: Nope, no CAD for us. Just a cold rain if it’s a true Wedge setup. Across the NC mtns and higher elevations of the Upstate and NE GA, snow will be the main p-type, where a few inches are possible across the srn escarpment and lower totals to the north. A lot can change with this system and the fcst will be adjusted over the next few days. One to keep an eye on. NWS seems to think the higher elevations will be ok.(excerpt from their afternoon discussion) Looking at the 12z GFS soundings, they show a very thin layer around 800mb above freezing up that way. The CAD has to be very strong to make it down in our area then it erodes pretty quickly.
WxKnurd
@CAD_Wedge_NC Sounding for what I tried to do as central Haywood. I’m on the western border so even worse for me. Northern down into the Central Mountains can score, but unless you are on the Escarpment in the Southern Mountains CAD setups are no bueno majority of the time.
franklin NCwx
You need to be on the eastern side of the divide to be in a prime cad spot.

Tyler Penland
Yeah this is gonna be nasty for a good chunk of WNC. Yeah TT doesn't have soundings but looks like a pretty strong/deep CAD. It has a tendency to overdo that stuff but definitely not a great look for those wanting to have power on Wednesday afternoon.
BooneWX
Could be lights out for those of us in the foothills on Wednesday. GFS looked slightly colder, Canadian holds its ground as well.

Phelps
Not to skip over today's event but any chance the Wednesday storm could be snow for the highest elevations? We've got a gulf low tracking up the coast and some cold air nearby. Just glancing at the global though and it doesn't look cold enough. Can't tell how close we are to something good.
