Typical Cad areas are warmer than many areas that never usually get it Yeah as the above mentioned this setup is not textbook.

That warm nose better hurry and get here or this might get ugly quick. I can already see it freezing on the deck rail.
FlatLander48
Alright I should have left earlier. POURING sleet. Car thing says 41, so should be fine.

wncsnow
What's crazy about living here is we can have hours of virga when there is cold air up high at these same temperatures even under good returns but when it's rain it doesn't matter if it's barely a blip
Met1985
Freezing rain and heavy sleet here in town.

FlatLander48
Roads actually got dicey getting into Boone. But fine in town. Just glad to be home.
Met1985
Just got home. The roads are fine but there is ice everywhere. Branches down in the road, and bamboo hanging across lanes. I got home and its an ice rink here. The deck is completely frozen over along with everything else. The good thing is that I still have power.
ncjoaquin
I haven't even looked outside, but it is 34 here, so I doubt there is anything to look at.

ncjoaquin
33, lightning, thunder, and heavy rain. Can't see the bushes or trees yet to see if maybe there is some ice up in there. It is funny how the temp knows to stop at 33.

WNC_Fort
My folks back home in McDowell were expecting a pretty significant ice event but once the clouds rolled in and the temps crept up to 33, they never dropped again. Lots of heavy rain and lightning though!
SnoJoe
Had a light glaze on the deck this morning but temps are rising fast. I'm now above freezing at 32.9 so the treat is over here. Dodged a bullet for sure.
FlatLander48
Not sure what the temp is, but can tell the HEAVY rain saved a lot of ice from forming, at least so far. Still some ice on the trees, but a little bit bummed.
cold air aloft
The dogs and I just took a walk in the woods to check things out. A beautiful glaze of ice on the trees and rhododendrons and crunchy sleet/snow/ice on the ground. Temperature currently at 31 here. What a wild night. Snow/sleet/rain/thunder, something for everyone! Fortunately no damage here. Good job by the models on this rare ice event in central Haywood County.

Sw NC weather
Woke at 5:30 and there was about 1/2” of sleet outside but it’s all gone now. Like Franklin said we need a flood watch in Macon county the creek below the house is out in multiple places.
