I think we had like 20 minutes where the sun peeked through, maybe tomorrow will have some before the clouds roll back in for the storm.
Met1985
We actually have some clouds streaming in with a few flakes flying around.
Tyler Penland
Temp fell all day. Still a few rogue flurries here in town. 20 degrees already. Gonna be a cold one.

Even .25-3 of ice would be awful. As I recall you lost a tree to an ice storm a few years ago. Let's hope it doesn't get too bad.
Tyler Penland
0z HRRR. This after an initial burst of snow in the mountains. I hope it's wrong.
BretWx
Praying the 00z NAM runs are incorrect. Horrifying.
FlatLander48
I don’t do generators, but I did buy 3 bags of charcoal today for some amazing grilling on Thursday as tress fall around me. 0z runs are scary. 1
Met1985
I think Madison on down goes into a WWA for the storm. I just dont see is meeting warning criteria. The favored CAD areas will stay or switch to a warning tomorrow morning or afternoon.

BretWx
Things are looking bleak. Truly hope we don’t get as much ice as the models are showing. Might take a half day to get some prep done.

Tyler Penland
Certainly not what I wanted to see. I've never seen the HRRR spit out numbers like that. The 3k NAM does it a lot but the HRRR doing it is what concerns me.

Phelps
I don't mean to downplay the threat of a significant ice storm but how long is this thing going to last? 12 hours? I was in Raleigh for the early 2000s ice storm and it just would not stop raining with temps in the mid 20s. Again, I do think a high impact ice event is in the making but some of these apocalyptic maps need to be taken with a grain of salt.
WxKnurd
I will eat my hat if my house gets a half inch of ice in a CAD setup, it goes against climatology so much.
Tyler Penland
I wonder if those Pivitol maps are adding sleet into the ZR totals. Cause it looks like a decent amount of snow/sleet at onset to me.

I am rooting for cold rain.

Tyler Penland
How much ice fell in Boone back in 2009? Can't seem to find amounts just articles talking about the damage. I believe that was the last major ice storm around here.
Hammer
Rime ice formed last night from about 3500 ft to 4000 ft when clouds developed just above the Valley floor. Buckethead
Those maps Bret posted have me thinking my household is sleeping down stairs tonight. .5" of ice plus those SSE winds is a little alarming. The ground has been absolutely saturated up here and those 100' oaks around my house worry me. Sent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk 1

When it comes to ice, I'd rather be an alarmist than anything else. If you're caught by surprise with it, it can be very serious. I hate the stuff.
