The average Public School Teacher salary in Connecticut is $63,053 as of July 27, 2020, but the range typically falls between $55,046 and $72,792.

Not as much as Mass. Having summers basically off.  180 days times say 10 hrs a day figuring extra home and weekends is 1800 hrs so average is roughly 35 per hour in Ct

“How much does a Public School Teacher make in Massachusetts? The average Public School Teacher salary in Massachusetts is $63,403 as of July 27, 2020, but the range typically falls between $55,351 and $73,196. Salary ranges can vary widely “

Wow.  Mass was very close.      Most contracts are 185-190 days.  I think mine is 187.      So yeah...around $35 per hour.  That’s for Master’s level degree.

No mosquitoes at all this summer.  Epic dry. Since the storm no bugs overnight in the pool either. Occasional grasshopper but bugs be gone. Aint no bugs on me

Mosquitoes have been no big deal here.  Deer flies almost gone.  Horse flies at the pool suck but they haven’t been bad.  Grasshoppers have been insane here

Also, our chipmunk population collapsed.  It was huge in the spring and early summer.  Almost gone now

We high risk in this area for the EEE this year, even with the dry conditions.  Plenty of bodies of water for mosquito's to breed.

Cost of living his higher, but 120k is more than most people in the private sector make here. So in the overall job market is above average pay. And the pension...which most in the private sector do not get...

You guys live in another world.  I remember that after the Police Officer/EMT/Teacher discussion from the COVID thread.  Just insane salaries compared to other places, either that or you're fixating on the highest values down there.   Up here it seems like they are lucky to get $25/hr in those public jobs.

It’s not that cheap either in Burlington proper. I interviewed for a job in Williston several years ago and was shocked at how expensive real estate was up there. Basically a removed suburb of Boston.

City arborist sent my pic off to the Maine Forest Service, They are bark lice and are actually good for the tree, Here's the Entomoligist response,

Good to hear from you again,  those are one of my favorite insects:  bark lice, Cerastipsocus venosus. They are completely harmless and actually benefit the tree by consuming detritus and other organic bits found on the bark of trees, especially maples. Think of them as little herds of buffalo roaming and grazing, the ones with wings are adults and the ones with stripes are juveniles. They are indeed distantly related to the lice people get in their hair although distantly and pose no such problems for humans.

Is anyone else seeing large amounts of grasshoppers?  Up here around Newfound Lake people are talking and posting pictures.  The past 6 weeks have been very warm and dry.  Is there a correlation?

I had far more down here in MD than usual. They are all pretty small but they are out there. Seems like a big year for them.

Glad you got the real answer, as my guess was way off.  I should've asked about the size - with no visual reference I assumed they were up to 2" long instead of being way smaller.

From the pic my wife sent, I had thought they were larger as well until my inspection revealed they were quite small.

Senate needs to pull their heads out of their asses, especially Mitch Mcconnell. My own unemployment is running out. Probably applied to at least 100 jobs. The market is dead.

Meanwhile, Trump's crowing about the stock markets at all time highs. This whole thing is totally FUBAR.

17% of MA is out of work. We're on the verge of collapsing. @Ginx snewx will be right about the second great depression if they don't get something passed.

Absolutely. Problem is Trump doing those half baked (and likely unconstitutional) executive actions  last week took a lot of the urgency out of Congress's negotiations. High stock market also makes them complacent. They aren't feeling the pinch like most people. It's amazing how bad the business environment is out there. I hear from people in all kinds of business every day and they're all struggling. I worry about this winter. It's gonna be bad.

And those executive actions don't even do anything for us yet. He's bragging about passing the actions, but they aren't even in effect.

That's what I was in before. Laid off on the real estate construction side of things.

I have a job lined up, but hiring is frozen for that particular company. I just hope they hire soon because this sucks.

Why is hiring frozen?  Either they’re hiring or they’re not.  Manual construction labor is in demand now.  I have to wait 2+ months to get work done on our house.

I work in Construction and all forms are slammed busy. It's hard to get Materials right now for many trades . And consequently there's a real need for workers . But many I talk to say they are having a heck of a time hiring people because they can't compete with the unemployment hourly rates and also -- no surprise many people don't want to do physical labor anymore.

I’m a Residential Design Specialist.  New construction, renovations and additions.  Slammed, working around 70-80hrs a week between main job and side job.  That’s what I’m hearing too on materials.  Limited supplies and prices are outrageous.

MA Covid numbers have been much better the last week or so.  Below 2% positive.   Hopefully that spike was short lived.
Im hoping to be able to work with my students in person at least part time of this keeps up.  Still can’t do labs though.

I ran the sprinklers for a while today.  Hadn’t needed to do that in a while
