It's only mid-morning there local time, and the heat index is already up to 151 at Bandar Iran with a temp/dew of 99/91. Several other locations with dews in the upper 80s/low 90s in the region lends credence to the obs legitimacy. A short ways to the west at Abadan the dew is substantially lower at 54, where the wind is blowing off shore. Needless to say if you lived in that area you'd be constantly praying for the wind to blow off shore as opposed to on shore lol. On a side note, Kuwait City is already at 109 actual temp as of their 8am ob lol. What an interesting region of weather. EDIT: There were 6 locations with dews between 90-91 at the 04z ob, the obs below are from 05z (which has 4 90+ dew obs). EDIT2: Kuwait City actual temp 115 at 9am. Turn on your heat, all the way up, to 90. Once the bathroom is hot, turn on the shower all the way to hot, keep the door closed. I think half the twin city folk are up here on the North Shore right now Yeah we’ve finally broken the heat and high dew points here after sweltering through much of July, windows are open for the first time in what seems like forever. Always jealous of the natural A/C the lake provides up there. Next week looks nearly perfect around here finally. I’ve being hearing that the northland has been overrun by urbanites this summer and generally trashing many areas. Sad. Typically my wife and I like to spend a few weekends hiking the SHT each summer as we are avid outdoors people, but she tore her ACL skiing in early March and had surgery in late May so we’ve been staying put this summer. That is a pretty large departure. 5 out of the warmest 10 Julys on record are in the last 15 years with 4 of them being in the last 9 years. However, the beginning of the month featured a predominant rare NE wind which gave those insane temps to the recording station. The predominant wind direction in the summer is SW which would bring a lake breeze to the area. It's very difficult to get 90+ with a SW breeze. The past decade has certainly had several very hot July's, but before that, Detroit's hottest July list was absolutely dominated by the pre-1960 era. In the last 12 years, Detroit his had 4 July's rank in the top 10 warmest and 2 rank in the top 10 coldest.
