Is today the last day of the 90s?

outside the warmer spots Saturday (8/2) and Sun (8/3) looks like limited 90 (+) readings the next week, but still warm and wet..  Later into the  Second week of August looks to see better chance for more widespread heat perhaps sustained for a bit.

With a high temperature of 95 as of 2 pm, LGA has eclipsed its monthly record for both 90 and 95-degree days (as per Bluewave's data). LGA has now had 19 days on which the temperature reached 90 or above in July (old record: 18, 2010) and 12 days on which it reached 95 or above (old record: 11, 1999).

That’s incredible. 12 95 degree days in a month. Wow.

Pretty unusual that a local station could get a record number of 95° days without going above 97°. I guess it goes to the stuck weather patterns since 2010 allowing  the maximum highs repeat in such a narrow range.

I looked back at number of 90 degree days and we haven't been having that many since 2014 or so.  I think the most we had in one year was 20 and all the others were in the teens.  This is a florida kind of climate, they dont hit 100 there much either.

1999 had one of our hottest Julys.  I'd think that 1993 would also be on this list- July 1993 and July 1999 were the only months when NYC reached 90 degrees 20x in a month.  Weird that 2010 isn't on this list too.

JFK was warmer than July 1999. But the onshore flow and 850s maxing our near +20 C kept the monthly max lower.  So JFK can get a July average near 80° with onshore flow when the dew points are high and SSTs near 80°.

wow so close to an 80 avg!  This is the first time JFK has had a 79+ avg temp for July without any 100 degree days!  Will NYC make it to an 80 avg this July, Chris?  I think NYC hit 90 today but not JFK?  Do you have any records for JFK most number of 90 degree days per month?  Are July 2010, July 1999 and July 1993 at the top of their list?

Wow very close to the top, I didn't realize it was that close.  It makes me wonder how much hotter next summer's going to be, at the peak of the 11 year cycle.....
