Last year it was too hot with temps, especially over areas that hadn't had much rain. This year it's under-doing temps by 5-8 degrees in many cases. I've noticed high temperatures can be kind of finicky based on when and where high dewpoints are able to mix up into the dry capping layer above. Sure enough, wherever the model was over-doing surface dewpoints, temperatures over-performed. It had dewpoints up in the mid-70s there. If that had verified the temp wouldn't have hit 100. Only in those super-extreme July heatwaves like 1995 do you get the triple-digit heat along with extreme humidity. In a normal pattern it's usually one or the other. The most infamous tor in DVN's cwa to be sure, and one of the deadliest tornadoes in US history. She chases tornadoes all over the midwest. It was destiny to move next door to someone that loves the weather as much as I do. We talk about it all the time. Snowstorms Posted June 3, 2020 Share Posted June 3, 2020 Had a pretty sweet thunderstorm roll through the area last night. I'm disappointed I couldn't get out and grab some nice shots as I was busy with some work. There was frequent cloud to cloud lightning. Some areas reported nickel sized hail too. An even better total eclipse than 2017, and then the main batch of 17-year cicadas arriving. EDIT: Nice moisture convergence over Iowa.
