This was the first top 3 coldest monthly minimum temperature in NYC since August 1986. Top 3 warmest monthly maximums have been much more common. The most recent events were in January and October. Just before that was the warmest February reading on record in NYC during February 2018.

Yep the nws offices aren't too impressed, but there is decent activity firing up in Central NY/Northeast PA which matches what the HRRR has been showing. Don't think that snow would be that widespread as shown by that radar loop, but for any places that get into some decent radar returns, perhaps some rain at the onset follow up by some frozen (graupel, some snow) mixing in shortly thereafter? You have a better chance at seeing frozen than those of us close to NYC.

Even in places with no frozen, winds will be interesting.

Sorta of a bust by nws.

had numerous snow showers late afternoon.

around 8 pm had a decent bust of snow that coated the deck & car tops

There was a bad one in July 1997 too.  Small area near Rockville Centre i think.  The 95 one was pretty small hail

1997, I think that was it, I was out of the country and saw it in the papers when I got back!  Can you find out how large the hail was at JFK or around the Five Towns area or Lynbrook/Valley Stream and how long it hailed for?  Thanks!

I ended up going to the Poconos Friday afternoon and was rewarded with heavy snow showers Friday night (less than an inch) and numerous snow squalls on Saturday (5 of them by my count, with a coating of accumulation in the middle of the day, interrupted by sunshine in between squalls) and then 4 separate hail storms on Monday, also interrupted in between storms by sunshine!  Haven't had excitement like that on Long Island in 3 years!  I kept checking the radar back home and looks like JFK had like 30 min of snow at the tail end of the storm between 1:45 am and 2:15 am early on Saturday but no snow showers during the day and no hail on Monday?

The 22 temp Saturday morning with a wind chill of 7 was a real shocker though brrrrrr......most winter weather I've seen since January!  The split was 37/22!

The lowest temp was 34 at NYC?  I thought it got down to 32 at 2 am during the snow shower?

How low did it get at JFK?  Did they report any snow?

And that October 2019 high was 95-96 at JFK.....!

I remember that crazy 50 low in August 1986- that was the first year that I saw the Perseid meteor showers and the skies were crystal clear with no haze- never saw them as well as I did my first year!  Was 50 also the low at JFK?

I also remember the 75 in Feb 1985- that was the same winter when we hit -2 in Jan during the inauguration with a high of 7!  Coldest arctic outbreak of my lifetime!  Januarys were cold and dry back then and Feb was always much warmer (aside from 1983)!

I think LGA and EWR hit 80 in Feb 2018- I saw mosquitoes flying around!

I also remember the 72 in Jan 2007- that was the 11 year anniversary of the Jan 1996 blizzard!  It was warmer in Jan then April in 2007 with snow all the way down to the SC coast!

if Central Parks observatory gets inches of hail would that count in the seasonal snow totals?...I remember one place in Jersey getting a foot of hail over a small area...hail should have its own column in the climate reports...

I remember that happening in northern Queens a few years ago, it hailed for hours......

Why do most hail storms only drop hail for a few minutes (like the ones last Monday) while the rare ones go on for hours?

No bust.

looking at records my 0.9 inches of snow will be in books long past my life.

honestly...I was outside on my deck looking up at the snow pouring down that night knowing this is a big deal.

still in shock & aw
