I was seventeen and it was a very good year...I was up in Hunter NY and came home July 4th...some highways buckled from the heat...late June to mid July 1966 was one of the hottest periods on record...

Euro maintains the easterly flow for at least the next week. So coastal sections will continue to be the coolest part of region. Friday into Saturday will probably the only days with some actual rain.

As long as it's sunny or partly sunny I'm fine with it-today is great out there, a bit cool but in the sun feels awesome.  Getting dry here though.  Pollen piling up on cars/decks

Yeah there was a rapid drying over the last three days, this wind has been very productive at the same time the trees (finally) went to town and greened up. Trails in the hills around Danbury are turning dusty in spots already with almost no mud left (which is nice). Yup the pollen is a thing all of a sudden too. It has been a few degrees warmer here, you should take a ride up to NW CT and go for a hike somewhere like the Norbrook Farms Brewery trails then have a fresh beer.

It’s not bad today, better than I thought it would be this week but with the low coming closer along with the high NE of us this weekend looks cloudier/maybe rainy which honestly might be a good thing and keep the crowds away from the beaches. Bottom line is we stay below normal until this constant backdoor friendly pattern changes. We need real westerly flow aloft rather than troughs anchoring over Newfoundland.

I call it the annual South Shore drought. Mediterranean like. It’s often weeks where the coast gets little rain in the summer but inland NJ/NY can get several inches or more from frequent pop up storms.

I live in northeast MA.  Has  the "south shore drought" been occurring more frequently during the time of climate change?

Even with the record high dew points since 2016, the only wetter summer than average at Islip was 2018. The lower dew point summers from 2010 to 2014 were wetter. Go figure...

I’m far enough north to be warmer than the south shore and miss the sea breeze on most occasions but far enough south to be droughty for extended periods during the summer. @psv88 is only a few miles WNW of me and gets more rain, sometimes inches more. Our temps on the other hand are typically within a degree or so of each other’s.

The LIE is probably a better demarcator for precipitation than it is for temperatures.

It probably is a piece of the puzzle some years. But we were wet during the summer in 2018 with that record WAR. 2017 was a little cooler than average with higher dew points. But a dry summer in the rainfall department. A good chunk of the summer rainfall in 2014 was with that 1000 year deluge over just a few hours. And we can’t forget the record breaking rainfall during the summer of 2011.

wow quite the legendary period!

JFK hit 104, EWR hit 105 and LGA hit 107!  Looks like NYC was the coolest at 103 at the peak of the heat

How did NYC ever hit 106 in July 1936 during the peak of the dust bowl?  I wonder how hot JFK, LGA and EWR would have been on that day had they existed?  Maybe one or more of them would have been hotter than EWR's July 2011 record of 108?

but extremely humid....one particularly humid day sticks out to me, it was overcast and 80 degrees with 100% humidity.....ugh..... give me 2010 dry heat over that any day, month or year lol.
