Found out today my moms cousin (83 with health issues) died of COVID. I knew him but hadn’t seen him in years.

Sorry to hear. A long time friend’s dad died yesterday from it, leaves behind 3 grandkids :(

What do those mean?

Yellow Alert
The emergency department temporarily requests that it receive absolutely no patients in need of urgent medical care. Yellow alert is initiated because the Emergency dept is experiencing a temporary overwhelming overload such that priority II and III patients may not be managed safely. Prior to diverting pediatric patients, medical consultation is advised for pediatric patient transports when emergency departments are on yellow alert.
Red Alert
The hospital has no ECG monitored beds available. These ECG monitored beds will include all in-patient critical care areas and telemetry beds.
Mini Disaster
The emergency department reports that their facility has, in effect, suspended operation and can receive absolutely no patients due to a situation such as a power-outage, fire, gas leak, bomb scare, etc.
ReRoute
An ALS/BLS unit is being held in the emergency department of a hospital due to lack of an available bed. (This does not replace Yellow Alert.)
Trauma ByPass

The hospital's ability to function as a trauma center has been exceeded. (This decision is at the discretion of the facility.)

Yellow alert- emergency room requests no patients to be brought in due to overload

Red alert- all ECG monitored beds are used up in hospital

Alerts are fairly common during normal periods ( pre-covid) and there have been less recently due to less emergency room visits because people being wary about going to an emergency room and less activities in general.

The hospitals on red alert have been on red alert for a few weeks, my guess is from Covid patients taking up monitored beds.

If you go on the website you can query alert history.

Are these pretty common or is it clearly covid related?

Pretty common, hospitals like beds full, so pre-covid, on a normal day, more hospitals would have been under some sort of alert at some point during the day.

For instance, Shore Regional on the eastern shore was on red alert quite often in February.  Since quarantine/stay at home started there have been almost no alerts.

Although,  I would guess the red alerts you see now are partially Covid related especially in PG and MOCO.

Yup. It is pretty common during Cold/Flu season in Central MD to see the hospitals on yellow,  red, reroute. Since Covid-19 it has been rare to see the hospitals on these alerts as people are avoiding the hospital for minor stuff (like they should all year!).

Almost 39,000 new daily cases nationwide today. Highest one-day increase to date. Past several days have shown respective increases. Is this due to more testing? Or is this a reflection/repercussion of Easter family gatherings, some reopenings such as Jacksonville Beach, for example, and city protests?

More testing being done which is good but hopefully the deaths are not going to ramp up.

It's good to see testing and timely results coming in.  As others have said, that will definitely spike the cases and that shouldn't alarm folks.  This will allow public health to isolate infected individuals.  For transitioning from phases to phase of re-opening we will be looking closely at supply chain integrity of PPE, ICU bed counts, hotspots in places like nursing homes, and number of vents being used.  This needs to continue through the summer and into the fall so we can maintain the isolation protocols.

Not everyone thinks like that. There are many people who are going to look at the numbers and be afraid.

Let's prioritize the coming global famine if and when possible.

If nothing else too conservative ... this will be around for a long time. It will be an extended struggle.

Yeah even though case numbers are going up, what we learned from New York is that positive case numbers are essentially meaningless. More important is positive percentage.

Is there somewhere that we can find this data? Would be great if there was a site that listed daily tests vs daily new cases and had the percentage laid out. I'm sure it's out there, just wondering if anyone has the link.

Saw some video on the news of a gym in georgia.  People working out pretty close to one another no masks.  Guy puts weights back without sanitizing.  Can’t see how this won’t end up being a significant mode of transmission.

Yeah. I think we will absolutely see a spike in a couple weeks.
