Very true, and I'm sure they don't really care and think this is all a sham, even if that's wrong.  Doesn't change the fact that they present a potential hazard...

I agree with you, just saying... they don't care. thats why they are doing it how they are.

Right, but the majority of them think its a sham. so why would they care?

What do they think is a sham? The virus or the removal of their liberties? If u live in a place without a lot of Covid 19 and don’t know anyone directly or indirectly who has the disease, how long should u stay quiet and remain locked down?  A week, a month, a year, indefinitely?  Not trying to stir the pot, but i can see how someone that lives in a place largely unaffected by the virus would start to question the lockdown policies.  The same way i can see the opposite viewpoint if u are living in community ravaged by the virus.

Any of them out and about without a mask or other PPE think its a sham. Otherwise, they would be protected, even while protesting. Also, read some signs, its all there.

Yes I heard some interviews I believe from the Austin Texas protest and there were a few of them talking about how covid-19 is a lie, it’s some kind of media propaganda designed to hurt trump, etc etc.  Maybe not 100% but it seems like a decent % of them were straight up tinfoil hat style conspiracy theorists.

It feels that for some of these people it was a chance to dust off old signs they had from the last march/protest they went on which was totally unrelated to the current situation.  Even if the signs are new the bad spelling remains.

It's a classic case where one's "liberty" impinges upon another's health and security.

I think anyone that is whining about not being able to get a haircut, or sit down at Applebees, or go to a movie theater -- should actually be allowed to do so.  But they should also sign a waiver where they agree that, if they get COVID, they (and their health care provider) are ineligible for any federal subsidies for their treatment.  They're also ineligible for any of the federal stimulus programs relating to the pandemic.  All of them.  Personal freedom mean personal responsbility.

well no, cause then you are risking others who don't otherwise want the risk to serve/help those who think its all for nothing.

you know the second part is illegal and wont happen

IMO it’s more a matter of time than totally political.  Most people in mid March were scared and willing to go along with the lockdown measures with only a few stragglers.  Now it’s mid April.  Still a majority of people willing to go along, but many more people in the “end the lockdown category”.  When we get to mid May i think a majority of people will more or less agree with the non political portion of the protests.  Which seems to be end the lockdowns.  At the very least people will want to see the incremental steps of loosening the lockdown policies in most places.

You may not, but the politicians do.  If they feel that the political risks of “shutdown policy” are unpopular they will switch their positions.  That’s not a R or D thing, that is an every politician at every level thing.

the only politician i am listening to these days is Hogan. Everyone else can shove it, for all I care. Playing politics during this is the lowest of lows. all parties included.

but again, this is going down a path we are trying to avoid in this thread. i think many need to agree to disagree that we have our biases and outlooks and need to back off the topic as much as we can

This is an important item to note.  I'm really glad Hogan did this and we are able to isolate and contain emerging areas of concenr to facilitate and easier "opening up".

It really isnt a shortage of tests.  It is a shortage of qualified chemists, equipment and labs to perform the tests.  We know this because there is a backlog/ wait once a sample is collected.

The same will be true with an antibody test.

In terms of the test itself, I remember reading that it is just a swab.  Maybe sometimes the patient will cough in to something too.  I am sure we can get as many of those swabs we need.

The bottleneck is the analysis. We can't just "ship in" new tests.

PCR is not a simple analytical process.  It is sophisticated.  The fact that the Chinese when straight to PCR was surprising a lot of experts.  It is expensive and time consuming and not every lab is gonna have the equipment to do this.

I don’t think so.  0 polling data supports this.  Fauci, local governments, health officials, personal doctors, and governors are all polling very high for trust.  People rightfully believe what they’re being told from these sources.  Anti vaccers holding up signs and shaking Alex jones hand isn’t going to spur a national movement.

It's that AND a shortage of tests. Hogan mentioned today that to date, only 71k tests have been given to Marylanders since March. Thats not nearly enough. Hogan wants to be processing 20k tests a day as part of his reopen goal. so getting more tests is a huge step forwards.

The 500,000 tests that Hogan and his wife acquired is greater than the number of tests administered so far by the top four states combined.  That's ridiculous.  That's what people should be protesting.

really sad isnt it?

It's funny how some people think that if we do something as a society for the good of the society, it's socialism.  And no, I am not pointing fingers in this thread.

i know you aren't. and i agree. long ways to go on getting others to think of it in another way.

I’m making a prediction based on the evidence i see.  I think by May 15 the majority of the people in this country will be in support of easing/ending the lockdown in their particular area.  I’m not saying that is right or wrong because i don’t know where we will be on May 15 as far as the virus goes.  If Fauci or other local Heath officials say we need to have lockdown policies for 6 more months then there “trust” polling will be in the gutter.  Not because they aren’t giving their honest opinion, but because there are other factors that people are weighing.

It doesn't matter if people are in favor of or not in favor of easing the lock downs.  The way this has to be done is easing them slowly so that hospitals and health care workers can keep up.  Without a vaccine, the best scenario at this point is to try to control the speed of infections.  That's why we are in lock down mode.  And part of the equation of how fast this spreads has to consider the potato heads like the ones in Harrisburg now who don't seem to comprehend what is being done.

Opening is going to happen.  But slowly.
