The approach that would do the least harm long-term would be to continue the pause and give researchers and doctors time to develop effective protocols (and ideally a vaccine). But that would require literal redistribution of wealth, and the rich people who call the shots would rather see the people who do the work have their health ruined than give up some of their own hoard.

So much wrong with this.

No guarantee on a viable vaccine or treatment. Didn’t the swine flu vaccine developed in the 70s cause brain damage?

It’s not the rich people in charge who are simply saying reopen, it’s the decline in R0 combined with pressure from their constituents.

Lastly, redistribute the wealth??? Do you suggest a socialist takeover? Even if that were to happen none of the money you’re after would stay here. Almost half of Hong Kong’s wealth expatriated before it was handed over to China. The same would happen here .

It didnt cost millions to have his name added...maybe a $1000 to add one line to a template. Unless you're counting toner

I had read (possibly erroneously) that changing print templates was extremely costly at the time because they had to rework millions of checks that were already through the system.  I'm guessing those checks don't roll off a Xerox printer using Word in some guys office.  There are massive amounts of man hours and money put into every aspect of rolling out those checks, but way to oversimplify it though.

The bottomline is that Trump wanted his name on the Check, so how is this solely a democratic issue in your eyes?  Trump loves handing out socialist checks and doesnt even realize it.

Fake news much? No reference to the "millions of additional dollars" it cost. Strange.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Sunday that it was his idea to put President Trump's name on the stimulus checks being sent to Americans during the coronavirus pandemic.

“We did put the president's name on the check,” he said during an appearance on CNN’s “State of The Union,” adding: “That was my idea. He is the president and I think it's a terrific symbol to the American public.”

You actually make a good point.  The toner for millions of reprinted checks isnt zero.

Fake news. Also, handing out a stimulus check is much different than universal income - a socialist policy.

If these checks aren't socialism I don't know what is. You're ridiculous.

Lol, could say that for any stimulus check given out in the past - here's one from the Socialist Pres Bush and Socialist Pres Obama:

2008 Stimulus Checks

Stimulus checks were mailed out as follows: Individual taxpayers received up to $600.9 Married couples were eligible for up to $1,200. Households with children received $300 per dependent child.

2009 Stimulus Checks

In 2009, the Economic Stimulus Act sent out $14.2 billion in stimulus checks.6 7 The one-time payment went to recipients of Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, veterans, and railroad retirees.

Insults don't make for productive conversation. Facts and references do.

To be honest, I rarely go there, but Trump supporters just enrage me more everyday.  He's the worst human ever.  Did you see how he treated that Asian reporter yesterday, its beyond insane at this point?

Also, the irony here is AMAZING!

Trump is the king of insults and name calling...and one of the dumbest, least factual, least scientific people in modern history.   The cognitive dissonance with your post is off the charts

"The Republicans own this mess and always will. "

Really?

Initial grant was approved under the Obama administration in 2014 for $3.7M funding research of bat coronavirus and some of that went to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.

What's True

A portion of $3.7 million in grants awarded between 2014 and 2019 by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to EcoHealth Alliance, a global environmental health nonprofit organization, helped fund research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China.

What's False

However, not all of that $3.7 million went to the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and not all of the funding took place under the Obama administration. Approximately $700,000 of the $3.7 million total was approved under Donald Trump.

So instead of trying to place blame on a single person or party, let's understand the responsibility falls on many from both sides.

I'm a fan of socialism.  I think universal income is absolutely inevitable.  Bailouts are fine are when the alternative is the economic collapse. I just find it amazing that Trump Supporters are notoriously anti socialism but certainly have their hands out there right now.  Amazing how that works.

Side Note - Obamas bailout is Bushs.  We all know that.  We all know the meltdown happened in Fall 08' and was built on the previous 10 years of bad banking.

Doesn't make you or him right. I'M not hurling insults - YOU and I are having the conversation, not Pres Trump.

I'm NOT a fan of Socialism, but there is a distinct difference between a temporary stimulus package and a lasting policy of universal income.

Trump supporters seem to enjoy trolling the Left.  They will defend him even when every bone in their body knows the thing he said was completely ****ed up or stupid.  It's exhausting.  Why can't they just say, "Boy that was stupid once in awhile".  You can still like him, but the 100% all encompassing defense is phony and played out at this point.

I can't stand some of the things he says and I wish he would stop using Twitter, like 4 years ago! With that, I support and respect all US Presidents, regardless of party, as I think ALL Americans should do. I DON'T agree with all US President's policies, however, and that's how I vote - policies over people.

Glad to see we agree on the tweets.   He tweeted 125 times yesterday.  Or once every 7 minutes for 16 hours straight.
