Speaking of this I gained 6 covid lbs this winter.

It’s all muscle :weight_lift:

I bet a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. People I know that work from home have said the hardest part is having access to food at all times.

I wish, straight to the stomach. I think I might do a half marathon so going to start running a lot more this summer.

A lot of emotional and comfort eating, I'm guessing.  I think a lot of people have been drinking more also.  It's understandable...but it can be very difficult to break those habits.

I think its the Jets. My buddy bought 2 pairs of seasons and I'm going to half the games with him. I expect things to be completely normal by then. Things "should" be completely normal by June 1st if enough vaccines for everyone by then. My mom got scheduled for vaccine in Syracuse, my grandma in Buffalo. My wifes best friend in Rochester due to having a small scare with skin cancer at a young age.

Speaking of vaccines, I love what Ohio has done and I hope NY follows suit. When you sign up for your vaccine YOU get to choose which vaccine you want in your arm...research shows the Johnson & Johnson shot is 100% effective at not landing in the hospital or dying from Covid...this seems like a no brainer to me, no?

It's also better against the variants and its only one shot. That's the one I want too.

Totally agree! I’m beginning to wonder why would anyone want the other 2 options? I’ve also read the J&J vaccine is more “friendly” to those with allergies.

Well the other 2 have a higher efficacy rate then J & J. I think its 95% vs 85%

I guess which is more important? We’ve lived our entire lives with a flu shot that’s anywhere from 25% effective to 50% effective but will keep you out of the hospital. I think it’s kind of a no brainer to get one shot and have ultimate safety from the hospital or possibly dying than 20% more efiiciacy

Still falling at a very rapid rate. Down to 44k hospitalizations. I would expect it to slow down a little or there won't be any hospitalizations in 1-2 months at this rate.

Is it possible that the virus is evolving to be less virulent? Would be great if it turned into a glorified cold or flu that didn’t require us to be so afraid of it.

Too early to say for sure but this virus definitely has a seasonality component to it. Even without vaccines the cases would fall very sharply in summer as we saw last year.

Interesting

A recent Canadian study published in Blood Advances, evaluated a data that involved 95 patients with severe COVID-19 infection. Out of the 95 individuals, 84% had blood type A and required mechanical ventilation.

Comparatively, 61% of the group with blood type O and B needed similar treatment.

Researchers came to the conclusion that type A blood type has a higher risk of COVID contractions than other blood types.

Seems odd that Europe is having such a rough time with the virus right now while the US is heading in the good direction.  Even Germany is still struggling and they supposedly had their sh*t together last year.  Several countries still have stringent lockdown requirements in place.

Media reporting, if it's to be believed, seems to be blaming virus variants for the trouble...but also slow vaccine rollouts in a lot of nations (UK seems to be an exception).  I go back to wondering if the higher population density in Europe is a factor.  We obviously have our cities and higher infection rates in them but still something seems off.  I can't put my finger on whether the real data supports the news flow or if there are various distorting narratives in play.

It's really sad that we can't really trust our news sources anymore. Frustrating when all you want to know is the truth.
