I don't know about nationally but locally hospitals continue to operate deep in the red and will be making even more cuts to staffing. Volume is down almost half.

You’re talking about too different things. Just because they aren’t making money doesn’t mean they have the staff or supplies to handle a pandemic size load of sick covid patients.

No I'm not...I'm telling you that locally they're nowhere near overwhelmed. They are even shutting down another 200 bed hospital. If beds were needed they'd keep it open.

Look what happened in NYC, they never even needed the USNS Comfort.

That’s interesting in itself, outside of COVID.  Where did all these people go who would otherwise “need” healthcare in any other year?  Have the heart attack and stroke deaths increased significantly this year because people are afraid to go to a hospital?  That was a discussion back in the spring but I haven’t heard anything since then.  Elective surgeries must be way down, too. Hmmm.....

Electives are in the tank because people are scared. Plus with more people staying home there are fewer trauma surgeries to treat.

60% of patients in El Paso hospitals are in ICUS due to Covid, that's pretty incredible.

That could be a deceiving number.

If the hospital has 50 ICU beds and only 10 patients, 6 of which are in the ICU, then there is no issue. (This is 60% of patients in ICU) This actually exaggerates the cashflow issue.

We need total census numbers to say whether there's an issue with them being at 60% or not.

An underlying concern for state officials is the pressure on Minnesota hospitals.

State health officials have warned of dire capacity levels statewide in terms of the number of available intensive-care beds, saying this week that they were at 90 to 95 percent capacity. In the Twin Cities, just 22 ICU beds were available — statistics that Walz described as “catastrophic.” Hospitals and the state are trading information hour by hour on capacity restraints and how to move patients. Officials are beginning to enlist retired health-care workers to help in what could be a nightmarish scenario in coming weeks.

Case counts are skyrocketing throughout the Midwest, with Illinois reporting 12,702 cases Thursday, a record, and Kansas reporting two record-high case counts this week.

This is true but hospitalizations are dramatically rising. We are already above our max in April/May nationwide despite far better treatment and understanding of the virus.

I guess it depends on where you get your news...this article from a minnesota based paper makes it sound like theyre just now starting to reduce elective surgeries.

If they're doing electives they're certainly not overrun w covid.

It's a not a deceiving number. There's over 300 patients in the ICU and over 1100 in the hospital from COVID in El Paso County. That's per capita just slightly higher than the NYC rate in April.

Still means nothing without knowing capacity. For example, NYC never reached capacity, hence the reason USNS Comfort went unused.

Capacity means more than just physical beds. Capacity was reached in NYC. Doctors and nurses there were overwhelmed and had to care for far more patients than is ideal. Did you forget they sent patients back into nursing homes rather than using the comfort? It's one of the reasons the IFR there was a bit inflated compared to elsewhere.

https://www.kxan.com/news/coronavirus/el-paso-county-judge-extends-stay-at-home-order-until-dec-1-as-covid-19-cases-hospitalizations-climb/

State health and emergency management agencies have deployed more than 1,350 medical workers to the El Paso area, the governor’s office shared Wednesday. An alternate care site set up last month will expand from 65 to 100 beds by Friday. The new resources are in addition to three Air Force medical specialty teams deployed by the Department of Defense last week and six Auxiliary Medical Units from the state.

The IFR there was inflated due to it being ground 0 and people being intubated that shouldn't have been. It was before they learned how the virus was causing hypoxia.

Yeah, that too, but capacity issues contributed. Sounds like things are peachy and completely under control in El Paso.

As President Donald Trump seeks to discredit last week's election with baseless claims of voter fraud, his team has bombarded his supporters with requests for money to help pay for legal challenges to the results: “The Left will try to STEAL this election!” reads one text.

But any small-dollar donations from Trump's grassroots donors won't be going to legal expenses at all, according to a Reuters review of the legal language in the solicitations.

A donor would have to give more than $8,000 before any money goes to the "recount account" established to finance election challenges, including recounts and lawsuits over alleged improprieties, the fundraising disclosures show.

Trumps only path of victory is to prove that dominion software system somehow changed votes either deliberately or an error in the system. The voting gaps are far too large. Any updates on that wolf?

Could mail in ballots be stolen from mailboxes, voted on and mailed back in? Is there any verification process for that? Obviously stealing from someones mailbox is a felony and if it did happen would be extremely rare.

Ya I think “IF” anything comes of Trumps lawsuits this would be the most plausible Avenue.

It all started due to a glitch in 1 county in Michigan..

Election officials say it was human error not computer software.

"Michigan's elections were conducted fairly, effectively and transparently and are an accurate reflection of the will of Michigan voters," she said in a statement. "The erroneous reporting of unofficial results from Antrim County was a result of accidental error on the part of the Antrim County Clerk. The equipment and software did not malfunction and all ballots were properly tabulated. However, the clerk accidentally did not update the software used to collect voting machine data and report unofficial results."

"The software did not cause a misallocation of votes; it was a result of user human error. Even when human error occurs, it is caught during county canvasses," the statement added.
