He has a lot of great pieces on China from his life there. Interesting to get first-person info and perspective on China. Here he discusses the drop in Cellphine useage and information and the utter madness of what's going on there from his personal contacts within China. Things continuing to go downhill quickly here. Up over 1050 cases in Erie county and 26 deaths with over 850 cases still active as well as 39 new cases confirmed in a nursing home in Orchard Park. The voluntary shelter in place order starts Tuesday. An order that would close most golf courses begins at 8 p.m. Monday and runs through April 27. “Now we need more sacrifice,” he said. “We can only win if we’re doing this together." McMahon admitted he can’t enforce it. It does not apply to essential workers. And you can still run errands to get food and medicine, if needed. But he’s asking people to go out every other day for medicines, groceries and other essentials in order to stem the spread of the virus. People can still go for walks in their neighborhoods, with their families and roommates, any day of the week. Here’s how it will work: If you were born in an even year, such as 1970, then run errands on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. If you were born in an odd year, such as 1971, then go out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Sundays will alternate. On April 12 even years go out; on April 19, odd years go out. The order runs from April 7 to April 21. McMahon said he didn’t know if there were other, similar voluntary requests in New York. “This disease, this virus is a killer,” McMahon said. “It killed five of our neighbors.” These next two weeks are critical, he said. This is when this community can dramatically stop more people from getting sick and overwhelming the hospital system, he said. In a big surge, Onondaga County could need 300 ventilators, McMahon said, adding the county doesn’t have that many. That’s why he’s calling for people to stay separate and stay home. “We need the community’s buy-in,” he said. “We have an opportunity right now to flatten this curve.” Without those measures, some models show we could be stuck in this pattern — with most businesses closed — into the summer. I hear the ending is terrible, but the ending of Game of Thrones was so bad that it cannot be worse than that. I've watched GOT 3 times through and read the books. It's basically unwatchable now after that ending. I'll still read the books when the 2 new ones come out. Last summer I watched "Santa Clarita Diet" because I like Zombie-type shows...and Drew Barrymore is in it. Such a STRANGE, black comedy of a show...but a fun ride. This optimism is based on the models from the state, according to the director. And now, if the fair does happen, it will officially be 18 days long. State lawmakers approved the necessary money in this year’s budget to extend the fair. Right now, almost all fair employees are working from home to get ready for what will be the longest state fair New York has ever seen. 2020 has been a tough year. At the end of this, you march through the darkness to get to the light. I am optimistic there is going to be a fair because there is going to be some light at the end of the tunnel. We are going to need a celebration of life at the end of this and the fair can act as that. TROY WAFFNER – FAIR DIRECTOR Waffner told NewsChannel 9 that, at the moment, there are no plans to use the Fairgrounds for help with the COVID-19 outbreak. I got laid off during the 2008-2010 financial crisis. They gave me extended employment for I believe 18 months, but only if you went back to school. So that is when I went back to school to finish my Bachelors degree. Some people took advantage of that time period to better themselves, but I'm sure many took advantage as well. The worst part of that time period is the governments bailing out all the financial firms that participated in aggressive lending practices. Giving out 500k mortgages to people making 50k a year. The tax payers bailed out Citi, BOA, JP MORGAN, AIG, etc... The CEOS of these "Failing" companies fired thousands of people and got huge paydays on our dollar. It's a lose/lose situation. The tax payers are either paying for welfare and subsidies for the low wage earners or paying for the bonuses for the top executives in their "bail outs".
