Hosting during a pandemic: 30% of Americans will take guests’ temperature before allowing them in

New survey shows the holiday season will be quite different this year, with four in ten people hosting ‘virtual’ Thanksgiving dinners instead of in-person meals.

In all, 70 percent say that hosts this year are under much more pressure to keep everyone safe during parties. Over half of those surveyed (54%) say they plan on enforcing strict social distancing rules the next time they host a shindig. Many others (46%) are putting together comprehensive lists of their party guests; so it will be easier to contact trace in the event someone tests positive for COVID-19.

Other new party rules include only having one person serve food and drinks (37%), mandatory RSVPs (24%), and even holding the entire party outside (27%).

In breaking news, Donald Trump's body is such a rabid Covid virus killing machine, Chuck Norris has even asked to be transfused with the president's blood as a precaution.

The sad truth that nobody can deny is that in this instance, America's rampant capitalism and bureaucracy have failed its people. When it really counted, our country chose to pander to the whims of the ultra rich companies and individuals that we oh so love, and you and I paid the price. What's truly the most infuriating, though, is that so many people choose to stand in ill-perceived class solidarity with the top 1%.

We have the most competitive economy in the world, by far the highest standard of living for a major country. This has led to the second highest percentage of people with a bachelors degree in the world. Its certainly not perfect but we do live pretty damn good lives in this country.

Honestly this thread needs to relax. Like damn guys Canada is right there if you guys don’t like it that much?

Really, highest standard of living in the world for a major country? Australia, Canada, & Germany would all beg to differ, to name a few.

"Clearly"?

Why isn’t it he on it now if we’ve had this correction for over a month now?

Also, it was heavily promoted back in April, WAY before any kind of real trial and scientific-based conclusions could’ve been made.

Come again? What the heck are you talking about?

I feel like I need my British girlfriend to come on here and explain these things to you guys lol. Really you guys have no idea how wealthy we are compared to just about every other country. It’s a hell of a combination of high incomes/low taxes/cheap imports that we have

I lived in northern Italy for five years, and I would have happily died there if I had been given the chance to. :)

I guess South Carolina is an improvement over Old Blighty, but lots of Brits live in Spain, France, Italy and Greece. There's no comparison.

The US is a fantastic place to be born in and live in, comparatively to the rest of the planet in terms of overall well being. That said by really no meaningful measure is it the best. It’s 7th for GDP per capita, and it is #15 in one of the more data driven quality of life rankings.

We have very productive land, abundant natural resources, a well educated workforce, and (arguably) a stable democratic government. None of those things should be taken for granted and fortunes can change quickly. The division and polarization plaguing the country right now I think is an existential threat to our stable democracy. I don’t have the answers but I hope our country makes it through this intact.

Wealth does not equate to quality of life/highest living standards. That's just a flat-out false pretense.

I've spent many months on end in Australia, for example, and my quality of life and overall well-being was better.

If our economy and standard of living is so great, socialism and populism wouldn't be as mainstream as they're becoming now - in both parties.  The only people who think our economy is great are MBA types and the investor class.

Looks like we've had +2000 hospitalizations over the  past two days.  Certainly doesn't appear that we're rounding the corner.

Our cheap imports have gotten a bit more expensive since the Trade War started.

Our Human Development Index is pretty high up, tied with England. It’s especially good for such a populous country.

I feel like your anecdote is incredibly pointless.
