John1122
Looks like round 2 is rain in western and middle valley areas. Looks like temps are close to 50 in Nashville. seems to be mid 30s to 40ish over on this side of the state. 35.6 imby with mostly clear skies.

I think the mix in the valley will be around I40 and south. Even in Knox Co I think if someone gets under a convective burst it could lay on the back roads. .
Holston_River_Rambler
Round two is about to move into my area. Sitting around 35 - 36 right now like John
Holston_River_Rambler
Must be a pretty sharp line of clouds. Radar looks like (arrow points at my house): But this is what I saw outside, hardly a cloud:

John1122
I assume the heavy area developing in western Tennessee is what has been showing up dropping 3 or 4 inches along the southern Plateau. Looks like it may be pointed that way. I figure its gonna be another hour or so before it starts here.

Lol, I didn't even realize it was snowing again until I saw your message. It's coming down pretty good right now but mainly on the cars. It's 35 degrees here too. I am actually about to leave for Johnson City in the next hour and won't be back until Sunday so I will miss most of it. Hopefully you'll get some to stick tonight with the nighttime snow and colder temps moving in! Just dropped to 34 actually as it gets heavier. Hopefully it won't get bad on the roads when we head out here shortly. 1

John1122
It's odd, or maybe just the radar I'm looking at, but the precip North of me in Kentucky looks to be moving due East and the precip West of me is moving SSE.
Holston_River_Rambler
Man I think the Crab Orchard mts just kill me with SW - NE moving precip. They don't look like much on a map (for those not on the plateau, I'm sure you are familiar Shcoker,) but I am in their shadow (sorry weird symbol is my area): Here's how they look from I-40
Chattownsnow
Would love to get under one of these convective snow showers and see what happens. Hopefully they don’t completely fall apart coming off the plateau. Clear skies really helping temps down here north of Chattanooga. Cool to see those north of here getting some good convective snows today!

I'd say that would have a lot to do with it. It doesn't usually snow as much in Crab Orchard as other parts of Cumberland County though either, but I think the elevation is a tad lower there as well. Another thing I've noticed is it seems like the further west you are on the Plateau, the more snow you get at least in these types of events. It's almost like it just smacks into the Plateau and then weakens as it covers the rest of the plateau, similar to what you're saying. The contrast from Cookeville to Monterey (10ish miles apart) is always striking. I am amazed that they are all the same school district because accumulating snow is rare in Cookeville while it can hammer Monterey, but the entire county gets out of school for it regardless. Side Note: I used to live in Deer Lodge!

Last few frames it looks like the precip was moving more East than SSE. .
Holston_River_Rambler
Yeah, looking at the big picture the heaviest returns look like they are trying to reorient in W TN, at least to me. Somebody is going to have fun with that one near Clarksville:

John1122
No virga this time. As soon as returns popped up over me, its snowing. Temp dropped to 33 degrees.
PowellVolz
This would be pretty heavy if it’s something frozen. This area as a whole has been getting better organized. .
John1122
If everything stays this scattered it will be hard to get much accumulation anywhere. Snowing for 10 minutes out of every hour doesn't cut it.
fountainguy97
Got absolutely blasted earlier today. 40dbz on radar. by far the most intense snow squall I’ve ever seen. Was a mix of snow/graupel. Near white out for a few minutes! Definitely a top 1 snow event for me today. enjoy!

John1122
It snows for 5 minutes and then the skies clear. Weird clipper. They usually produce a few hour window of steadier snow. A shame that heavy area in Nashville was rain or maybe bright banding from melting snow flakes.
John1122
MRX said that the main precip would move over the Northern Plateau 11pm to 3am and work through far eastern areas 7am to 10am. Gonna hold out some hope it actually does develop more than a passing shower. The precip type in the grids was way off. Said rain here until 11pm, then rain and snow til midnight, then all snow after midnight. There's been no rain, just not much precip in general.
Holston_River_Rambler
If the elevations that saw snow earlier today were any clue, if I was about 400 feet higher I’d be getting slammed right now
