ORH_wxman
I’ll have to go back and look at the METARS....but BOS had a 19” depth after the storm when they had 3” prior to the storm. That’s not really passing the sniff test for a synoptic storm of 27.6”. It might for LES. But BOS had 15 to 1 ratio that storm...which is pretty fluffy by BOS standards but nowhere near the 30 to 1 air fluff that could plausibly compact that much.

Most recent example would be 2016. I just was surprised that storm in 2003 was still number one in Boston. Over the past decade we really have raised the bar with these costal snowstorms. I thought 2016 was inflated down there but hard to prove otherwise.
dendrite
If you add up the hourly totals from the SNINCR obs, you get 30". But there's a lot of fuzzy things going on. The depth starts at 3" yet when the snow picks up they report SNINCR 1/2 and an hour later SNINCR 2/5. So there's some weird math there. BOX obviously didn't use the ASOS liquid total of 0.39" either. Those gauges were pretty terrible with snow back then...especially with wind. CoastalWx
I have no idea how often they measured, but we had a solid 2' otg at my house in GHG. Just going by my friend who lived there in E BOS. I do recall a heavy band immediate to the city. I was always thinking near 24" myself.

It was obviously a prolific storm either way, but it probably should not be the record.

Anyways, maybe we can sneak that 2/27 storm in but that is right as the pattern gets better, so I’d probably favor early March more than the last couple days of February. But we’ll see...maybe a marginal one breaks right for us finally.
weatherwiz
I hope March is active. When it's active it's fun and time goes by fast...let March be active and fun b/c once March ends...boom we're only one month away from severe wx season...nuts. Let's get 20-30'' in March and then flip to 70's and 80's come April. 1
