Definitely not saying it hasn't happened - but I thin those numbers are much more common with warnings (before the criteria was changed to 1 inch hail). In the old days I remember seeing 65mph a lot too with warnings and watches. But 70 for wind and 1-1.5 for hail is about even with the average severe watch around our parts. Still not seeing any northern extension. Going to be close for me. I fully expect these clouds will stick around long enough to sour my chance to see the comet tonight. At least so far; sometimes these storm are backloaded. Pretty ominous look to it as it was coming in. Sky had a slight green tint to it in places but fortunately no hail at least in MBY. Pretty sure I caught a direct strike on a transformer, multiple power flashes, etc...definitely the strongest storm we've had down here so far. Interestingly enough, yesterday's was nothing in comparison here, just .11" and two cracks of thunder but more gusty. (31 mph peak today vs. yesterday's 42 mph peak) I was driving through this around 16:45 and passed some serious streams running through the edge of fields. The ground is so dry here that those deluges unfortunately are running off instead of soaking in. The backside had a nice round of lighter rains that did give a decent soaking. 1" hail today not 1/4 mile from here. That's OK, even though 1" isn't too much prefer not to have it. Nothing tops the five minutes of tennis ball stones and 109mph gust on June 15, 1980 for us. That's real severe usually more common in the plains...
