Luftfeuchtigkeit
Impressive start in Madison. 1.2" at my house between when it started at 3:25pm and 4:15pm. Around 1.5" per hour rate.

Hoosier
If there was any doubt about the warm surge, Quincy has already flipped to freezing rain. This is even faster than the typically aggressive NAM and more like the HRRR.

This will probably be the best action imby so far this winter and I want to see how much ice happens. Keep us all updated if you learn of power outages as well. hawkeye_wx
The mix is surging northeast in Iowa. Des Moines and Ottumwa reported freezing rain at 4pm and it's very easy to see the switch line on nexrad CC. I just hope we can cross 5" before the switch occurs. Hoosier
If I had to guess, I'd say the most likely area to get warning criteria ice in the LOT cwa is roughly in a box from LaSalle to Chesterton to Rensselaer to Pontiac. Would not be shocked if it got farther north though.

Sciascia
I forget just how heavier snow falling silences surrounding sounds. I was walking into the wind to my bus stop with my head down, and if I didn’t look up, I could’ve assumed the street wasn’t full of traffic.

madwx
Rates are still good here and it’s nice and gusty out but some dry patches in the radar are showing up to the west. Hope the snow doesn’t shut off too soon
Michigander
1 hour ago, Toro99 said: Can anyone who is more knowledgeable than me, explain why GRR went with an advisory versus a warning? Most models have a lot of their CWA receiving 6 inches or more in 12 hours tonight, and certainly 8 inches plus in 24 hours when the lake affect kicks in later on Saturday. Add that to the fact that this is going to be the most significant snow we’ve had all year, wouldn’t be prudent to go with a warning? Is it the timing of the snow, overnight? Or is it just GRR being GRR? Thanks in advance . I was wondering the same thing. RCNYILWX
A rough estimate from DVN correlation coefficient mixing line would bring that through the Chicago metro in about 4 to 5 hours from west-southwest to east-northeast.
