bowtie`
Another nice end to a race day here in Indiana. Local sunset with some vivid cloud shadows... The red flash with the cell from up north of here around Crowne Pointe... I like the design of this late post sunset image... The extreme late color and the billboards...
bowtie`
Today was all about the smoke, haze and humidity. Made for a very *thick atmosphere. Pre-sunset... Close to local sunset... Post sunset with the lone cloud that was northwest of Lafayette...
bowtie`
Did not know what to expect this evening. When I got out there it looked just like yesterday... But as the Sun got lower and lower in the sky, a streak of cirrus or smoke that stretched from Kansas to Indiana on the visual satellite, started to become visible... The orange of the evening.... The red of the evening...
bowtie`
Almost did not go out to the pond this evening. Glad I did though. Some nice colors this evening. Beginning of the post sunset colors... Start of the orange/red... A little closer look at the orange/red... Extreme post sunset with dark billboards. I kind of like the tinge of green... Extreme post sunset with the billboards lit up. I like the color balance on this one...
Eskimo Joe
Nice picture. It's almost criminal to not be throwing a frog in that water. Looks like some prime bass fishing.

Looks like some prime bass fishing. Thanks. And trust me there are people out there almost every day doing just that. Drowning a frog. When the weather starts getting cooler again I will have the place more to myself.
bowtie`
I originally thought tonight would be a bust. But as I was leaving the diner, the Sun snuck under the clouds and it turned out to be rather fanciful. I di not have time to drive to the pond though. Just ran home grabbed the camera and hobbled a block to the other side of the bank. Plopped the camera down in the middle of the road and snapped this... Then I hobbled another block west to the Courthouse Square and opened the 16-35mm all the way open to 16mm and got this... The red flash looking due west straight down the street... And the extreme post sunset colors as the lights of the Square were taking over... Good night my darlin' , wherever your are...
bowtie`
After dinner I sa that the better color would be towards the south. So I grabbed the camera, hopped in the car and tried to find a spot fast. Stopped in a church parking lot[ but the trees on the southern edge were too tall and blocking the view. So I got in the car and kept heading south. It was either trees in the way or wires. I ended up driving all the way to the pond and got there right at the peak color. It was all downhill after this image and on this image I had just pulled up left the car running and the door swinging open to get this image looking due south... A late cloud giving me the finger as it slides by to the east...
bowtie`
It was another one of *those* nights. Glad I took a trip out to the pond. Well worth the effort. Just going to start with a bang and begin with the star of the yellow post sunset... Moving right along to both the orange and the yellow... And the finest of the night with the yellow, orange and the red/violet... As the red heads to the horizon... Even the incidental light looked fantastic this evening... Good night my darlin', wherever you are....
bowtie`
Looking southwest when I got out to the pond this evening... The beginning of the post sunset color... The beginning of the red... Going vertical to try and shove more red into the frame... Last of the red on the horizon... Cheers!
bowtie`
And now for something completely different, a sunrise. Of course they are in reverse so it starts with the red... And here is the Sun...
bowtie`
First I did the sunrise, now I am going to do a sunset. My way of celebrating summer, a two fisted affair. This first image is just for comparison. Hard to believe that this is what preceded the rest... Right around sunset... Hard to believe but to get from that first image to this is pretty amazing. The backside of the cloud shield got just close enough in Illinois to give me this... Some nice cloud shadows in the top and bottom cloud layer as the color was fading... Cheers! bowtie`
Another vivid night at the pond. The yellow with a diffuse cloud shadow in the center of the image... The orange with an even more vague cloud shadow on the left side of the image... The beginning of the red... The end of the red... Even the incidental light looked good... Good night my darlin', wherever you are...
bowtie`
Kind of figured that tonight would be a bust. But it was a very close thing. When I got out there, looking to the south... Best I could do with the color. It was obviously red but just on the other side of the cloud layer. Gave a creepy pink cast to the sky...
bowtie`
Going to start missing sunsets soon with so many diners with reduced hours. Tonight I was only able to take shots from next door at the bank and at the Courthouse square. From the bank parking lot... From the Courthouse square... bowtie`
Went out for the sunrise again this morning. Just going to start with the max dynamics. Some sort of vague yellow crepuscular rays going on also... As the reds fade and the yellows dominate... And going to finish with the start of the sunrise on the horizon... bowtie`
My idea of the perfect ending to the unofficial end of summer. Out taking cloud pics from sun-up to sun-down. When I got to the pond looking south. And for comparison for a future image... First look west with small cloud shadows... As the Sun heads for the horizon... For comparison with the first image. The best color was to the east and south... Last image of the night is from more to the east... Cheers!
bowtie`
Plenty of clouds with just a little color this evening. The last I as going to see of the Sun for the day... Made the reflection image of the night a black and white because the blues were going crazy. Looked a lot better eliminating the color... The last image of the night I am proud of for how I took the image. I had packed everything up for the evening and had turned around to walk back to the car when I looked over the shoulder and saw this. I took this handheld, holding the tripod off of the ground. Surprised just how sharp it was when taken at 1/20th of a second. Have to pat myslef on the back for not missing this... Cheers!
bowtie`
Knew that the sunset would be brief and muted due to all the *stuff* west of me, so I just stayed home and did not go out to the pond. From the bank parking lot... And ended at the Courthouse square...
bowtie`
Smoke plume sunset tonight. Orange post sunset... Beginning of the red.... End of the red.... Cheers!
bowtie`
The only good news to all this smoke is that you can shoot straight into the Sun and not worry about lens flares. Other than that, it is boring.
bowtie`
Yea! Finally had some clouds to shoot this evening. And the smoke eased off just enough to give a smidge of color. The yellows with some faint crepuscular rays... About the best the color would do...
bowtie`
No clouds last night, obviously, but the smoke shield there in western Illinois is the dirty yellow on the horizon and there is some extremely faint crepuscular rays going on here... Just some more info. This was taken at 7:44 P.M.. The moon was 17 degrees above the horizon. It was at 241degrees or WSW. And 8.4% illuminated ( at lunar noon). This was taken with my 100mm. Now you have the rest of the story.
bowtie`
Had some clouds this evening. A nice change. Looking south when I got out to the pond... First look to the west... Best image of the night, I think, and some great crepuscular rays... The red flash... The last dregs of color and light... Cheers!
bowtie`
Last Clouds of Summer Went out for the sunrise these last hours of summer. The early orange... Had a nice sun pillar this morning... Does the vertical show the pillar better? The Sun above the woods... Last cirrus of summer. This was straight overhead so sorry I could not give any horizon for perspective...
bowtie`
First sunset of Autumn. Pre-sunset... Post-sunset...
bowtie`
Most of today was 100% stratus. But around sunset things started breaking up. When I got to the pond there was a rather vivid cloud shadow... The best of the post sunset color...
bowtie`
After a couple of days of severe clear at sunset, it was nice to have some clouds to look at tonight. When I got out to the pond... As the Sun got lower towards the horizon... Beginning of the color on the horizon... As the lone cloud overhead became illuminated with the orange color... End of the color on the horizon... Cheers!
bowtie`
Was out at the pond, morning and night. Some cirrus off to the northeast during the sunrise... What little color there was during the evening...
bowtie`
Took a trip around the county this afternoon hoping for some good clouds. I always stop for clouds... The harvest is on-going here... This might be a bit dark but I did not want to blow-our any of the whites in the clouds...
