bowtie`
First time out at the pond in the new year. Had some nice conditions this evening. Started off with a vivid sundog on the south side of the Sun when I got out to the pond... Close to local sunset. You can see just how far south the Sun is of those trees to the right which is close to due west... I kept an eye out to the east and it is a good thing I did. The pinks went all out in that direction... The west went to mega red for the post sunset, glorious ending... As usual, thanks for all the views in the 2019 thread and I will be deleting those to make room for this year's crop as I go along.

bowtie`
^ thanks Today I took a little afternoon nap. Did not mean to sleep so much but when I woke up the inversion had lifted out from the southeast. Did not have time to make it to the pond so I just walked to the corner to get as much sky as possible...
bowtie`
Almost been two weeks since the last atmosphere image. I needed to get an updated booster in the memory card. Pond as iced over so I did not have to mess with reflection stuff. Looking southwest when I got to the pond... Looking to the northwest. I like how the color goes orange from the building to the blue in the sky... Post sunset color... A quick lens change to the 100mm to get the stuff on the horizon... bowtie`
Finally, another break in the Lake effect inversion around here. Got to try a sunrise from the backyard just a couple of minutes ago. Looking southeast with the security light and trees... A wired sunrise looking south... bowtie`
Color was not quite as vivid this evening as was this morning, but the nice day out I did put some more images on the memory card. The white looking northwest... The yellow looking north northwest... The orange/red looking north...
bowtie`
Was out for another sunrise this morning. Beginning of the color on the horizon with the 100mm... Max extent of the color with the 16-35mm. Please excuse the focus. Operator error, this is more about the color anyway...
rclab
A natural beauty that we, thankfully, still cannot control. Viewing this pictorial has made a difficult morning much easier. Thank you, as always .....

bowtie`
^ Thanks. The inversion broke down this afternoon and gave me something other than 100% stratus. Looking southwest when I got out to the pond. Please forgive the truck on the left side of the image but it is interstate I-65 and is kind of a busy road and not so easy to get images without vehicles... The breeze made it rather uncomfortable sitting right on the ater so I went back to the car to warm up. A ragged piece of the inversion drifted into a good area of the sky and I stepped out of the car and took this... The post sunset color as nothing special but better than nothing... bowtie`
Was not sure if the sunrise would do anything with the retreating clouds but I went out and shivered for a bit just in case. Some sneaky red with the 100mm... Here comes the Sun, with the 100mm... My favorite morning tree with the 16-35mm...
bowtie`
This evening as all about the 24-70mm. Had some clouds scraping by to the south. Needed the extra reach. With the pond still iced over, no need to mess with filters and reflections. So I could concentrate on just color and correct exposure... Local sunset... What little red there was...
bowtie`
Departing systems are always a timing issue. This evening it was close. About the brightest the colors got... And the deepest the colors got...
bowtie`
Yesterday was a departing system. Today was an approaching system. They look completely different. Started off with a decent sundog on the south side of the Sun... An overview of the encroaching clouds... Here I took a shot like the final one of yesterday so you can compare and contrast... I was starting to get rather chilled and headed to the car when the Sun popped out for a final call. Took this next to the car...
bowtie`
The Sun is hitting the horizon as I drive home from work now. Today I ran into the house and just took some shots from the corner of the yard. The good news is that the clouds were northwest of me and that is the one direction that has the most open sky from my place. The orange as I just got home... What little red there was a little bit later...
bowtie`
This morning there was a very short period of color pre-sunrise. With the 100mm... This second image was taken less than a minute later. Changing the orientation put some brighter sky at the top of the image. That increased the contrast which really changed the color. Funny how the color balance can be so fooled...
bowtie`
These are from last night, 2-23. I was lazy and did not get them off of the card until tonight. When I got out to the pond, some expansive white... Close to local sunset. The contrast is a bit over the top but I still like the image... Post sunset color. Plus I got to play with some reflections. The water was not perfect but I still had fun...
bowtie`
A nice sunrise this morning with the encroaching cirrus from the approaching system. The deep maroons as the color gets started... As the reds started to spread to the west, max dynamics... Local sunrise as the colors begin to get blasted away...
bowtie`
Tonight will show how different lens can change the color of an image. Starting off with the 100mm and no cropping to the image... Two minutes later took this with the 16-35mm and a lot of cropping... What a difference in the color of the image. Yes the light changed a bit in the two minutes, but that much? Naw. bowtie`
Some faint, very faint cloud shadows this evening post sunset...
bowtie`
Tonight was all about the 100mm. Looking east at sunset and had some nice cotton candy colors... West was nothing special but I will show what little color there was...
bowtie`
Had a nice evolution for the sunset this evening. Started off at local sunset with the 16-35mm... Around max dynamics with the 16-35mm... Switched over to the 24-70mm for the last two images. Needed at little extra reach and both are around 46mm... Last image is the incidental light. Had a touch of red/maroon at the top... Made for a great end of the work week for me.
bowtie`
Could not leave on some vacation without sneaking in a sunrise at the start. I do like starting with the reds... And then ending with the yellows....
bowtie`
Back from vacation. Not much to the sunset but it is good to get back into the groove...
bowtie`
Nice sunset this evening. I thought there should have been some sundogs but they never appeared... Close to local sunset... What little color there was post sunset...
bowtie`
Today with all the rain and storms to come, I figured there was zero chance of any sunset action. After eating dinner I went outside to get the trash ready for tomorrow when I noticed some pink off to the east. walked around the side of the house and then sprinted back into the house to grab the camera. Some red sneaking above the IGA store across the street... Looking down the street to the west with all the trees and wires in the way....
bowtie`
I kind of violated the stay-at-home order this evening to get the sunset. Here I was at the local Pizza Hut waiting for my pizza to be done and took a pic in the parking lot with wires and trees of the white pre-sunset... After I picked up the pizza I made a speed run to the pond. What it looked like when I got there... Flipped over to the 100mm to get the deepest color post sunset... bowtie`
Tonight was a race between the left over moisture and the dry air wrapping in from the west. The dry air won but I still got a couple of clouds. The white clouds were basically retreating to the east when I got out there... When it got close to the sunset there was only this lonely cloud to the southeast... Switched to the 100mm for the last gasp of color...
bowtie`
Squeeze play with the upper low to the north and the developing system pressing in from the south this evening. The low black clouds are from the upper low and the white and yellow clouds are from the system to the south... Some weak but strange shadows as the Sun sank lower... What little color there was close to sunset...
bowtie`
Any idea how ambi-dexterous you have to be to eat pizza while taking sunset pictures? Looking south-southwest when I first got to the pond... Here is a look due west just before the clearing over-took everything in that direction... Back looking south-southwest just about as the Sun hit the horizon. About as much color as I as going to get....
