Is the Thruway road surface usually warm enough to not have issues from freezing rain? A bit nervous about that... NYS thruway authority does a great job treating roads. SouthBuffaloSteve
Got an early start from Columbus this morning. Is the Thruway road surface usually warm enough to not have issues from freezing rain? A bit nervous about that...Not good at the moment. Accidents all over on the police scanner. Listening now to a multi vehicle accident on the 90 near Clarence service station. Fire truck responding slid off the on ramp. Really heavy freezing rain right now. .

TugHillMatt
Checking out the NWS FB pages, it looks like all sleet and freezing rain being reported around New York. Pretty much no snow falling. Warm air winning? Per usual?

DeltaT13
Woke up to pingers galore but now some giant flakes are trying to mix in when it’s coming down at its heaviest so there is almost enough cold air to flip us. Should be a wild ride today.
CNY-LES FREAK
Kroc ain't getting any snow on the front end. All sleet right from the start. That was a lock forecast and everyone jumped on those horrific precip output maps that had snow all the way back to Buffalo. Forecasters seem to shoot their feet a lotSent from my SM-G970U using Tapatalk

wolfie09
A very knowledgeable poster from another board has been mentioning the"fujiwara' effect with this system making it hard to pin down.. https://wxdisco.com/forums/topic/1461-december-1-3rd-2019-winter-storm/page/73/?tab=comments#comment-95732 The Fujiwhara effect, sometimes referred to as the Fujiwara effect, Fujiw(h)ara interaction or binary interaction, is a phenomenon that occurs when two nearby cyclonic vortices orbit each other and close the distance between the circulations of their corresponding low-pressure areas. The effect is named after Sakuhei Fujiwhara, the Japanese meteorologist who initially described the effect. Binary interaction of smaller circulations can cause the development of a larger cyclone, or cause two cyclones to merge into one. Extratropical cyclones typically engage in binary interaction when within 2,000 kilometres (1,200 mi) of one another, while tropical cyclones typically interact within 1,400 kilometres (870 mi) of each other. We are going to have a couple inches of sleet if nothing else, but I think we’ll get 2-4 inches of snow on top once the secondary takes over.
