That takes this right from a nuisance event to something potentially damaging. We're still probably about a good 10-14 days awake from peak here. Now if you go up about 500 feet or so into Orange County it's another story. NycStormChaser
Definitely a small window for isolated severe weather tonight around midnight, mostly confined to the east end of long Island. A quick spin up isn't out of the question Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk

donsutherland1
The biggest rainfall in several months and possibly within the past year for parts of the region is now poised to affect the New York City area. Areas of moderate rain were advancing to the north and west of the region with moderate rain recently falling at Allentown. Farther south, rain has been falling heavily in Washington, DC and Baltimore for the past 1-2 hours. As of 1:39 pm, Washington, DC had picked up 1.09" rain. The daily record there is 1.38", which was set in 2002.

NycStormChaser
Hrrr keeps uping the ante when it comes to wind gusts tonight. Instead of those stronger gusts being isolated to eastern long island they make it west into the city. Getting into the peak of the rain event with the yellows and oranges on radar going over us. Coming down good but I wouldn't go as far as calling it heavy rain. It's nothing compared to the very heavy rain you get in summer t-storms, where you can get an inch of rain in 20 minutes. This is more like a high end moderate rain, but of course we will end up with very heavy rainfall totals because it lasts much longer than a summer t-storm. But this definitely isn't HEAVY rain. It seems heavy for this time of year, but again nothing like the true heavy rain in summer downpours.

We were at about 60 percent this morning in many areas, wind sheltered is still around 80-85% but it has been raining leaves more heavily than water so hopefully if that SJ moves through here it ends up mostly harmless. .55" so far.
