East of New York City, especially Suffolk County and also the eastern half of New England will pick up a heavy rainfall over the next several days. While New York City will likely pick up 0.50"-1.00" rain, 1"-3" is likely in such locations as Bridgeport, New Haven, and Islip. 2"-4" rain is likely in Boston, New London, Providence, and Westhampton. Parts of Cape Cod and Nantucket could see 3"-6" with some locally higher amounts. I’m in Westchester… I woke up this morning and it was 59.5° out ...well above normal. We will be in that uniform temperature environment with BN days and AN nights for the next few days. once the storm passes it looks like we’re normal to above normal quite quickly. In years past we'd frequently see 30s to low 40s by now even near the city and we can't even drop below 50. And we're lucky to be just north enough to avoid the torrid heat the Mid-Atlantic has experienced for months. In fairness, that map is heavily skewed to the one 90 degree day we had. If you took it out, temperatures would be slightly below normal because of this weekend. So your point is valid Yes I realized that, but that is why I posted the last 30 days map later. But still no below average within an hour’s drive of NYC metro, largely because as you pointed out the above average overnight lows. Just because it's cool now doesn't mean in can't warm up again, and we see strong signals that we'll see a warm stretch later in the month. We're done with 90 degree weather, but we can certainly see a couple more 80 degree days. At the very least we'll see some more mid-upper 70s. The prolonged nature of the rain will allow the ground to slowly moisten and begin absorbing the rain. You do not want Short duration heavy convective rain when the Ground is dried to a hard shell as it just runs off. Winds are pretty meh so far on the island. I was surfing earlier and the waves are increasing. There should be some good erosion at prone locations. Long Beach is going to loose a ton of the dredged sand.
