Yea...

ORD has been a bit of an odd-ball all summer temp wise, but it finally looks like the sensor is fully trashed now.

Notice Aurora's temperatures today are a bit suspect as well, has stayed in the mid 70s all day so far when most surrounding sites are mid 80s.

Guest ovweather

Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling Green, KY have already set new all-time October high temperature records. Tomorrow offers a good chance to break it again.

Looks like the morning low of 73 still held...so far, anyway.

I could be wrong but I think there is some discretion allowed.  Say if the ORD sensor acts up again later and drops to 69 or something but it's clearly illegitimate, then I don't think they have to go with that reading.  RC or one of the other mets could clarify though because again I may be misremembering how that works.

As far as the monthly record, at this point I think it's more likely than not that it gets broken, but it's not a done deal yet by any means.

So frustrating. For the second day in a row we tied a record from 1897 with a reading of 92 degrees. Would have been nice to see a 122 year record fall.

Breaking is better than tying, but at least you will see 2019 when you check the daily records since the most recent occurrence is listed.

Hey beavis, looks like this could be close.  I forgot it actually has to make it until 1 am central since we are still on daylight savings time.  Outflow is currently just south of MKE and moving south but not necessarily racing.  It better not come through between 12 and 1 haha.

Based off what just happened at PWK on 5 min obs, appears more likely than not that ORD will fail to set the record. PWK went from ~81 at 12:05 am to ~70 at 12:10 am.

Edit: ORD officially failed to set the new monthly record.

Yeah, 68 on new ob.  Literally just needed another 15 minutes or so.  Unreal.
