NORTHERN HAYWOOD...NORTHERN BUNCOMBE AND YANCEY COUNTIES UNTIL 700 PM
EST...

At 530 PM EST, Doppler radar indicated the leading edge of an area of
heavy snow along a line extending from 9 miles east of Erwin to near
Dandridge, and moving southeast at 15 mph.

Locations to be impacted include...
Spruce Pine, Burnsville, Marshall, Newland, Weaverville, Mars Hill,
Banner Elk, Hot Springs, Elk Park and Bakersville.

Very heavy snowfall rates up to 1 inch per hour will be possible in
these areas, along with winds around 25 mph.

In particular, driving could be dangerous as the snow band moves
across mountain passes, such as Sam`s Gap on I-26 in Madison County.
Visibility may be sharply reduced in brief, heavy snow.

Interesting setup today. There was accumulating snow (dusting to half inch) south of downtown near Reynolds and Biltmore but nothing stuck in West Asheville or downtown. Guess it was how the bands setup

Tomorrow I'm going with my dad to Banner Elk to look at some property, snow should be lighter then but hope to see quite a bit on the ground.

After a skiff of snow this morning in Boone, had very light snow start around 12:30 that did not accumulate. Around 5:50 got some decent snow for about 30 minutes that turned the ground white but not even an inch. Hoping for a miracle tonight, maybe we can hit 2” for the first time all winter. Can’t believe how poorly we’ve performed this winter specifically in Boone.
