Bostonseminole
50 minutes ago, Damage In Tolland said: Awful news from Donny Sutherland in NYC thread. Among those five cases, 2015 made a transition from predominantly negative AO values to predominantly positive ones during the fall. The combination of the AO's recent increase to the strongest positive values since April and some of the extended range guidance leave open a scenario where the AO is currently in the early stages of evolving to a predominantly positive regime. Such an outcome would also favor a warmer than normal fall and possible warm start to winter in the Middle Atlantic and southern New England regions. For now, this is merely a hypothetical discussion of one potential path toward winter. Many other variables are involved. The only idea that carries weight at this time is that the possible evolution reaffirms the longstanding signal for a warm fall.

tamarack
Frost on the pickup roof and a bit on the sun-facing windshield, low about 31, one day later than the 21-year average for 1st frost. Most of the garden dies tonight, expecting U-20s.

Still gotta worry about temps being too cold. I still love me some snow. It's just a PITA for me cleanup wise at least for the lengths I go to. So winter for me is a win-win or a lose-lose...depending on if your glass is half full or empty.

powderfreak
Tonight is going to be cold. 59/33... that’s MVL’s lowest dew of the season. Yesterday had dews of mid/upper 40s and got to 40F min, today dews are going to be around freezing this afternoon.

Crazy, ASOS here had a north wind and dew of 45F only 2 hours ago. Then it went NE wind and dew plummeted from 45F to 33F in those two hours with the wind shift. Reinforcing shot of dry air. ORH_wxman
20 hours ago, dendrite said: I think it's mostly CC, warmer autumns, and wetter times. The 60s-80s were pretty dry and cold. CON had a lot of October 1st 32Fs back in the yore days so maybe we're just getting back to those levels after the cool baby boomer period. Even for last freezes...there were lots of Junes in that cool period, but only one before 1964. When you look at some of the temp records around here, the 1960s through early-mid 1980s are pretty unrepresentative of the century as a whole. They had some of the lowest variance year to year and were very cold.
