Actually in Islip Terrace visiting family. Impressive storm. Winds easily 50+ mph, in waves for 5-10 minutes. We have power luckily. I’ll try and post a video in a bit but it doesn’t do it justice from my vantage point.

Looked like a nasty storm. Glad you made it through unscathed.

I wonder how big of an area was raked by these storms and the one earlier in the summer that also knocked out power for a chunk of Suffolk County. Maybe Islip/Bay Shore area?

Brentwood area got rocked by both

Have some wind reports to share from Fire Island from tonight’s event:

Fire Island Light 46 mph

Fair Harbor 46 mph

Atlantique 40 mph

Point of Woods 40 mph

Cherry Grove 40 mph

Fire Island Pines 35 mph

These gusts all occurred around 10 pm.  It is amazing that these stations are still up and reporting after this event.

I'm in Farmingville.  I've yet to see a tree down.

Drive out to Shelter Island. 38% of the island has no power.

That storm is still severe off the north fork.

45,000 homes without power now...legit event

I knew that bow was powerful when its outflow produced pretty Gusty winds despite being well to my north back in NJ.

Tornado perhaps?

Prob straight line winds.  But there was a definite lowering when i was at Jones Beach.

This is mostly straight line wind damage.  The large area of strong wind reports and radar presentation would strongly support that.  I do believe that after Upton does their damage survey that there will be a spot or two where winds will have been determined to reach close to 100 mph.

So far I’ve seen one downed tree and some downed branches. Power outages seem random, some areas have no power while adjacent areas do. Some traffic lights are only partially working, likely damaged by the winds.

My basil and pepper plants were steamrolled and I have some snapped palm fronds, but nothing terribly serious as far as I can see (which isn’t much at this hour).

1.03” final total. Rainfall rate peaked at 4 inches per hour.
