Wow - just pulled up the data on GR. That's one hell of a QLCS.

Microburst or straight line  here, my first summer up here.

A long-lived supercell, which formed in eastern New York during the late evening of the 9th, moved across northern Connecticut during the early morning hours of the 10th. The storm intensified as it entered Hartford County, and downed wires in South Windsor. As the storm entered Tolland County, there were many reports of dime to nickel size hail, but hail as large as golf balls fell in Vernon and Willington. In Windham County, the storm downed trees and large branches from Hampton to East Killingly. As this supercell moved east into Rhode Island and southeast Massachusetts, it produced more widespread wind damage and large hail.

It's definitely a QLCS but an embedded supercell (it was a beast) developed over Hartford and moved east into Mass.

Next Wednesday has a shot ...

 We pray

An upper trough will pivot eastward on Wednesday, spreading 30-40 kt
midlevel southwesterly flow across the region. Surface dewpoints in
the mid 60s to low 70s will be transported northward across the
Piedmont of NC/VA into the Mid-Atlantic vicinity. Strong heating
through this corridor will result in moderate to strong instability
and thunderstorms will develop over higher terrain during the early
afternoon. As convection spreads eastward, some guidance suggests
upscale growth is possible, with one or more line segments tracking
across the region. Effective shear is somewhat marginal, around 25
kt, and midlevel lapse rates modest. But higher PW values and
pockets of steep low-level lapse rates could be sufficient for storm
organization along outflows and areas of damaging wind will be
possible. At this time, its still unclear where greater potential
will develop and will maintain Marginal probs at this time, though
upgrades could be needed in subsequent updates if current trends
   continue.

So----here's my remedial question of the day......

I need to get some type of cheap station/sensor for mby readings.  The challenge is where to place the sensor.  I'm not going to put a stake in the yard to mount it.  So, here are my options:

1) affix to the house itself (north side to minimize direct sun???)

2) there is a 15' high deck off the west side--I could mount it on one of the outer piers, keeping it away from the house

3) we have a 2-story unheated detached garage to which I could affix it.

4) there is a stockade-type privacy fence in the back (east facing)

5) there is a utility pole in the back corner with some growth around it (I want to keep the growth to mask the pole a little)

Note that the house and garage are both white so that would mitigate some of the structural heating.

Feedback/recommendations are welcome.

Sensor or full station , if you go full station, if wireless you need to be able to change batteries.  Just a temp sensor , in the shade
