I think it has to do more with the fact that there is an inversion above us today (maybe a subsidence inversion?) and with the high temperatures and light wind it allows ozone levels to build up at the sfc,

Yea in the summer air quality alerts usually happen with higher humidity like the shore has.

Bingo!  A well mixed high dew air mass is fine.

Name me one time in the summer with low dew air . Its part of the issue not a whole. You need stagnant air, sunlight, water vapor.

Stagnant air alone will do it.  Happens frequently during October with a stable airmass that is warm but low dews.

Crushing the pool today, 80 here after a low of 59, poor folks who  only dropped to 69

Lol...I dropped to 65 and that’s warm for mby.  I didn’t check this am because I couldn’t find the doggie leash.  Walk today was untethered.

Steve raises a valid point though.

In terms of LA the air quality there is mainly due to the emissions of motor vehicles and the build-up of those chemicals in the air. Salt Lake City I believe is due to strong inversions that develop over that area.

For us...more times than not our air quality is due to ozone build up at the sfc which results in airmasses where there is little mixing and there is some sort of inversion aloft and below the inversion you have a hot and moist airmass. Thinking about it chemically H20 and O3 reacting...not pleasant.

Yea I was talking about the conditions in our area that generally cause aq alerts. Of course you can get them with totally stagnant air but more likely in high dew situations.  Different animal than LA and wood smoke out west. Look at last July and August and October,  pick out the HHH days
