And now in visual form

I'm between the 0.20 and 0.78 to the south of Fairfax City (closer to the 0.20). We missed north and south with the storms at around 5-6:00, but then got hit flush with the one that popped up at around 7:00. Absolute gullywasher for 10 minutes or so, then had generally light rain for a few more hours.

Those two 1.5"+ reading look like places that got hit by the 6:00 storm and the 7:00 popup.

Special for EJ

I live about .5 to 1 mile from this area. I can confirm that we got over 1" in about 15-30 minutes. One of my window wells filled up. It only does this when we get a heavy downpour in under one hour.

We’ve gotten (and are getting) crushed with heavy rain in Burke. Must be some sort of boundary that set up over us.

2.15 from today, in Burke. Backyard nearly had rapids going in the downhill portion. Good stuff.

Yeah, you guys have been in a good spot today.  We are going to have a nice swath of 3-4” over two days south of 50 stretching back towards Clifton.  I’m still under an inch on the two days.

It’s always frustrating to be just on the edge of these localized heavy rain events, particularly on the warm, humid days when you just want something to break the warmth in the evening.
