The National Weather Service in Upton NY has issued a

* Tornado Warning for...
  Union County in northeastern New Jersey...
  Richmond County in southeastern New York...

* Until 1015 PM EDT.

* At 933 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
  was located over Basking Ridge, or near Morristown, moving
  southeast at 30 mph.

  HAZARD...Tornado.

  SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

  IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
           shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
           Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur.  Tree
           damage is likely.

* This dangerous storm will be near...
  Plainfield and Summit around 945 PM EDT.
  Clark and Union around 955 PM EDT.
  Linden around 1000 PM EDT.
  Elizabeth around 1005 PM EDT.

MRMS shows a large area of hail >2" in diameter crossing NJ into Staten Island. Storm's core is collapsing but I'm guessing some pretty nasty chunks of ice fell in the last few minutes.
