It’s been a COC k season though. Shouldn’t be any mosquitoes

I'm not sure you understand mosquitoes.

Those suckers started coming out in April as the snow melted.  They love transient snowmelt pools in the higher elevations, too.

Yea if it wasn't for these rainy cool stretches we would be dry.....

45 species of mosquitoes in Vermont... the VT Agency of Agriculture shows most of those species prefer cool pools or snowmelt pools.  In fact it seems like hot stagnant water is their least favorite.

Some favorite habitats for DIT, learn something new every day:

Pretty lucky around here,  not a lot this year.

Yeah I think the colder and much wetter than normal conditions are doing it.  They are insane, just immediately swarmed if outside after 7pm.

June so far in the bug infested north country:

Days above normal... 2

Days below normal... 15

Days exactly average... 3

The worst mosquito bites are salt marsh ones, they hatch at full moon on a low tide. They could carry Wiz away.

They are voracious.

Today’s rain and clouds allowed the critter to be active all day.   So far, I’ve only seen and killed 1 deer fly.    Ticks have been extremely abundant though. Maybe our worst year in at least 10

The mosquitoes were driving me a little nuts when I was weeding the garden, I had sprayed a product called Repel on an old hat and they weren't bothering me around my head but were clouds of them all around my arms and legs.  So I went back in and got an old T-shirt and sprayed that stuff all over it.  They left me alone.  It is intended to be sprayed on clothing and gear, used as indicated it really seems to work.
