It's official, deer fly season has started here. I had a few dive bomb me late this afternoon and I managed to kill one of the bastards. It's still black fly season, and if that's not enough, there's mosquitoes to boot. It's the trifecta of blood sucking insects season now. I don't recall them overlapping as much last year.

Deet is useless against the black flies and deer flies, but works against mosquitoes. I got that hat that Dendrite recommended from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XXJBLRJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, so it helps keep the little buggers off my face and neck.

Otherwise, temperatures are comfortable. 71° F high so windows open to warm the house, which was 64° F earlier.

Hoping the black flies stay away down here another week while the smallmouth are spawning on the Quabbin. It was almost unfishable due to a hatch of something in spots last weekend.

The noseeums came out tonight in swarms. But yeah, not many deer flies here either.

Anyone know if there is a link for Maine lake temps other than Sebago lake? I know water temps are running cold. Heading up there in less than a month and would like to follow the progress of the temps.  I jumped in the water in early May right after the dock got installed at my parents camp it must have been high 30's or so at Flying Pond just west of the Belgrade Lakes.

That's a question better suited for others. I use a FARS and also a siting that avoids too much radiation. The solar input is mostly early in the day. Not sure of the latest and greatest with the tech stuff anymore, but the fars (in working order heh) improves accuracy to some end.

Based on the the deviation range of Davis stations, I would say the bigger issue would more likely be placement than calibration.

Looks like 1.25 overnight at KMPV

Nice.   Only .14 here in ORH.  The sun's broken out--perhaps we'll wind up with a more sunny day than anticipated.

On another note, I'm going to start buying stuff just for this.  :)
