Roger Smith
(edited previous content) 0730z - Reading reports on line of major damage to Jefferson City, MO and nearby Fort Leonard Wood, from large tornado. Also hearing that the Joplin storm resulted in at least three fatalities.
J_Prothro
I was in a discord when Jeff City supercell took a left turn and we were all basically saying to TORE it. Thank god for lead time, because I thought there'd be 10+ deaths on that storm. There's been none reported so far. An absolute miracle.
nrgjeff
We started the day in Wichita. Drove east on US-400 and then negotiated road closures to Coffeyville for lunch and nowcast. Departed for Miami, OK navigating around road closures (flooding). Supercell that eventually produced Joplin and Jefferson City tornadoes approached us on an outflow boundary. Saw some photos from Commerce OK; however, we were road blocked. Even w/o blocks, we didn't have the heart to follow it toward Joplin. About 30 minutes prior to Commerce we documented this finesse tornado near Bluejacket OK. Soon after we glimpsed a cone under a low wall cloud northwest of Miami (no photo posted - distant / too grainy). Wednesday is why we did not get too aggressive Monday. Better to live for a beautiful tornado.
