question here. maybe i just haven't seen enough of them due to work or something. but there seem to be more than the usual amount of "multi-core" or "multi-circulation" supercells today than usual. the one that formed near Ft Stockton and is still going to the east on I-10, and the one currently in Nebraska crossing I-80/US 30 between Gothenburg and Lexington. the ones I have seen the most are usually single core-single circulation. is it just me?

Noticed this as well and thought it was a result of merging supercells.    Two definite circulations on the Lexington area storm.

at least I'm not the only one. because yea, you're right they're usually the result of cell mergers and are short-lasting due to outflow disruption, allowing for one dominant cell and circulation to take over. these cells being the formation they are just seem unusual to me. I wonder what type of data the researchers are getting out there today on those cells.

Cell got its own MD:

Mesoscale Discussion 0658
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
   0812 PM CDT Fri May 17 2019

   Areas affected...Portions of central Nebraska

   Concerning...Tornado Watch 172...

   Valid 180112Z - 180315Z

The severe weather threat for Tornado Watch 172 continues.

SUMMARY...A long-lived supercell thunderstorm continues to move into
an environment favorable for tornadoes. The strength of the
low-level wind fields suggests that some tornadoes may be
significant. Large hail will also be possible.

DISCUSSION...An intense supercell with a history of producing
tornadoes has been ongoing for the last few hours and has shown
increasing signs of rotation per KUEX radar. Low-veering in the KUEX
VAD profile shows very large 0-1 km SRH approaching 400 m2/s2. Given
the continued influx of higher theta-e air and increased low-level
winds accompanying the low-level jet, this activity is expected to
persist into at least mid-evening. Tornadoes, some significant, and
large hail will all be possible with this activity.

that's the same cell that has been going from McCook to Cozad, that's just a "hand-off" warning for North Platte as the cell moves across CWA's.

Looks like DDC will be missed just to the SE by that TW'd storm

That cell has recently produced at least 2 small tornadoes, per streams from Brett Adair and Sequoyah Quinton.

Rotation never looked that good on radar, but the tors were undeniable.

Snagged four tornadoes today from the long-track cyclic supercell. Would’ve gotten more, but got held up for a little while by snapped powerlines in the road east of Farnam, had some trouble finding additional roadways as cell coverage in SW NEB is pretty awful. Tons of chasers were on the storm. Saw numerous DOWs, in addition to the NOAA P3 aircraft, hopefully they got great data. Off to Kearney to grab some grub.
