Through May 16, Atlanta has a mean temperature of 71.9°. As a result, May 1-16, 2019 is tied with 1952 and 2012 for the 19th warmest such period on record. Records go back to 1879.

After today, Atlanta will likely have a monthly mean temperature of 72.0°-72.1°. That would rank as the 16th warmest May 1-17 period on record.

Based on apply sensitivity analysis to the latest guidance, there is an implied 55% probability that May 2019 will become the warmest May on record. The current high average temperature for May is 74.8°, which was set in 1996 and tied in 2018. May 2019 is currently on track to finish with a mean temperature of 75.0° or above.

With the death ridge and record to all time record highs showing up on the models for the last half of the month, warmest May, seems almost a given, IF models are correct

Thank you Don.  I steady 5-7 days of 93-97 is on the way.   Very early for a prolonged heatwave like that.

Today and all this week the SE is hotter than Vegas, Phoenix, and Death Valley; that's pretty sad!

Right now, Hazlehurst Ga, Augusta, and Columbia SC are the warmest places in the US!
