Getting 45-50mph easterly wind gusts on the back side of this departing storm complex.  Seems to be a common theme lately.

EDIT:  Weather station has recorded a 2mb drop in the past 15 minutes.  29.75" to 29.61" in that time frame (1005 to 1003).

EDIT2:  Across the river in Clinton hit 60mph just before 2pm.

I find this stuff to be fascinating.

1.92" of rain at ORD yesterday, which broke the record precip amount for the date of 1.80" (1939). The 1.92" of rain yesterday at ORD also made it the wettest Memorial Day on record.

Top 5 wettest Memorial Days on record...
1. 1.92" - 5/27/2019
2. 1.00" - 5/28/1984
3. 0.76" - 5/31/1999
4. 0.75" - 5/30/1883
5. 0.69" - 5/30/1885

Just picked up over 3/4" of rain in less than 20 minutes.

Edit: Power went out and wiped away my rain data from today from the weather station console.  That's what I get for forgetting to put batteries in the console to back it up during outages.  Apparently there is no way to add it back manually, so I'll have to remember to add 1.11" (daily total up to then) to the May 29th data point.  That will go for the weather underground page as well. :axe:

ORD has set a new May total precipitation record...beating the "old" record that was set all the way back in...2018.

1) 8.24" in 2019 (thru 6:00 AM today)

2) 8.21" in 2018

3) 7.59" in 1945

4) 7.32" in 1883

5) 7.27" in 2011

As well, Apr-May 2019 is the wettest on record.

1) 14.26" in 2019

2) 13.95" in 1893

3) 13.64" in 2013

4) 13.42" in 1873

5) 13.15" in 1975

This Spring will go down, most likely, as the 2nd wettest on record for Chicago.

1) 17.51" in 1983

2) 16.35" in 2019

3) 15.67" in 1882

4) 15.64" in 2013

5) 15.59" in 1975

And one last one, 2019 is the 3rd wettest start to the year (Jan thru May) on record.

1) 22.23" in 2013

2) 21.56" in 1975

3) 21.12" in 2019

4) 20.23" in 1983

5) 19.81" in 1999

Now up to 1.24" this evening.  That brings us up to 10.86" for May, and 15.11" in a little over the past month (Apr 27).  Shit's getting out of hand.

8.46” for May thus far and 5.6” in late april.

All I want to do is play golf when I can use a cart, lol! It’s been too wet and every round I have gotten in this year has been walking only

This May was far more impressive in areal expanse of extreme rain amounts. Last year's short lived May record for ORD I jokingly call a fake record because it was pretty localized, with the high totals focused over the northern metro. ORD happened to jackpot a few events. If I counted correctly only 13 measurable rain days in May 2018 compared to the ridiculous 21 days of measurable this year (23 of T or highe). Just as a reference for the localized high totals last May, through May 31st, LOT was over 2" below normal for March 1-May 31 period. This year we had ~10" more at the office in the same stretch.

It was an interesting May; we more than doubled our average days of thunderstorms for the month with 10 instead of the average of 4 days, pretty hard to do during a cooler than average May for our locale.  I'm hoping the cool and relatively stormy pattern continues.  Regardless of storms, this coming week looks to be quite pleasant on the whole as it should be this time of year.
