In Cranberry....Heavy rain with pea sized hail, some lightning, 1.52" in about 45 minutes, but was wind driven against west side of house for a while so catch will probably be a little low. Could still be a miss. There will be a final chance region-wide on Thursday. The probabilities look lower in severe terms, however, at least for now. No hail, impressive light show, looked like a wall cloud as it moved in (hard to make out at night for certain but thanks light pollution). RitualOfTheTrout Posted May 29, 2019 Share Posted May 29, 2019 Got pounded pretty good between say 9:30pm and 2:00am. Woke up a little after 1am to another severe Thunderstorm Warning. Didn't see much tree damage, but the lightening and amount of rain were incredible. Glad I waited to finish filling the pool up, Mother Nature may have done a bulk of that for me overnight. It will be interesting to see how things setup today, I'd think most areas that didn't see much yesterday should be more in line today, but I can also see where there may be an area of overlap that get hit pretty hard again, NWS makes mention of this in the discussion. SPC Outlook: ...Upper Ohio Valley east to the mid Atlantic Coast... In the wake of remnant/early-morning convection, airmass recovery/destabilization is forecast ahead of a short-wave trough (now centered near southern Lake Michigan) which will cross Lake Erie and reach western Pennsylvania by early afternoon. As this feature -- and a weak/associated surface low -- advances, redevelopment of scattered thunderstorms is forecast to occur, possibly beginning as early as midday, across Pennsylvania, and adjacent parts of West Virginia, Maryland, and northern Virginia. With the airmass forecast to become moderately unstable, storms should quickly intensify -- aided by the persistent belt of strong westerly deep-layer flow across the area. While some tornado risk is expected -- particularly near/ahead of the weak surface low and associated warm front, where backed low-level flow will be present, the greater risks appear to be locally damaging winds, and hail. Some CAM guidance suggests that storms may grow upscale through the afternoon, eventually merging into an at least loosely organized cluster, as it sweeps across eastern portions of the risk area and off the Atlantic coast during the evening. Should this occur, more widespread wind risk would likely evolve, and thus have expanded the ENH risk area slightly, extending it off the mid-Atlantic coast. Isolated thunderstorms have recently initiated across central OH and northwestern PA in association with this feature. jwilson Posted May 30, 2019 Share Posted May 30, 2019 Here's a couple images from last night that I captured on that final severe storm of the evening. This was on the very southern edge of the cell. First is the possible wall cloud. This isn't the best it looked, but it's the only real view on tape I managed to grab of it (this is actually a still from a video). It looked a bit more defined as it approached. There was a clear inflow band, as well (extending off to the right of this image). Unfortunately, I didn't end up attempting to get any more pictures or videos of it for some dumb reason. Here is a quick GIF of some lightning I captured. It got pretty intense. Evidently there was hail with this storm further to the north, but the core of the storm missed me. My wife passed away from cancer recently so I've been kind of a mess over that. I would like to get back to posting here regularly again. I need to get back to my hobbies and need distractions. Anyway, it looks like we have an unsettled week coming up. Had some pretty good storms move through late last night. Hope we don't have a flooding repeat from a year ago.
