There is no radar in Cherry Hill.

If you are referring to the radar at Fort Dix, it was down for a time yesterday so our technicians could replace a leaking part.

If you go to the Cherry hill radar site...Its not working many times.  Fort Dix whatever.  I don't understand this.  I do not blame you MGorse or the Cherry Hill office..  But when warnings are out for severe weather, it would be nice if it was not offline.  When it is working...it is great.  Lots of info on total rainfall,  storm intensity.  I wish the NWS put more resources into this.

The NWS office is in Mt. Holly, not Cherry Hill.  And that radar station is on a military base - recently re-orged and part of "Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst".  KDOX in Dover, DE, also on a base (and also in the Mt. Holly CWA) is up and running and working fine for monitoring the area while KDIX is under repair.  These instruments don't last forever!

Straight to the point...lol.

But yeah, radars are down. I'm trying to check it out myself....nope.

It is not whatever. There is no radar or NWS in Cherry Hill, period!

Equipment breaks down after awhile, and the radar will be returned to service as quickly as possible.

Of course, thanks for the update MGorse.....it's like like having a crappy HDD/SDD.......they fail eventually.

*Blue Sky still searching for the Cherry Hill radar...

Radar still not working.  From wherever.

South Jersey...South Jersey NWS.

It's still in the broken stage...pretty sure someone is on their way to Lowes or Home Depot for tools and parts. Looks like rain is approaching though....

C'mon guys...some duct tape, a little WD-40 and we can make the Cherry Hill radar the bestest ever!

Tried that...still ain't working! Up on the tower now,,,trying super-glue. Something has to work....maybe a swift kick in the ass? Think I'm going to text Elliot Abrams shortly...it may be the flux capacitor?

Ha! If Elliot isn't around, try JB--maybe he can whip up a protein shake.

Herb Clark just called on his rotary phone...he's going to put on his weather gear and lend me a hand. He thinks I didn't calibrate the torque correctly while tightening . If that doesn't work, Jim O Brien and I are going sky dive onto the top of the radar to further investigate. This needs to get fixed.

Lol. Unreal thread here!

Anyway, the radar failure that occurred is significant. To replace the parts that failed takes a team of specialists from Oklahoma as they have the resources and man power to get it done. The replacement parts have to be shipped to the radar site, then extensive work has to be done including lifting up the entire radar pedestal and dish inside the radome. And remember the radar is not at the NWS office, it is on the property of Joint Base. What broke you ask, I will just say the radar will not turn AT ALL. The last update we got is for the radar to be back online during the week of May 20th. We are not happy about the failure either but it is what it is.

Wow thank you for the update.  One techy, semi geek question.  Qho does the local diagnosis, is that your ITO?  Do you have private contractors that fix the radar itself or is it NOAA tech staff?
