2019 Mid-Atlantic Severe Wx - General Discussion

Nothing severe here (in McHenry) but lots of downpours/T&L in pop up storms in/around here.  It was neat sitting on the deck earlier under sunny skies while looking at the cumulus clouds just north of here and hearing lots of thunder.

I think we're going to set a record... 3 different MDs issued across the area and no watch lol... each MD had 40 percent chance too

There are a ton of large outdoor activities ongoing this weekend across the area, Rolling Thunder for example.  A big push in the weather and public safety enterprises has been to be aware of mass outdoor gatherings and improve weather communication to the public and coordination agencies.  Probably the reason for the 3 MCDs and the 2 SPSs.  Not a bad thing though because someone will undoubtedly say "tHeRe WaS nO wArNiNg".

I am in the middle of the Harford warn box.  Absolutely no severe, winds near calm with moderate rain.  100s of lightning strikes this past 30 minutes within 10 miles and nice rumbling thunder.  The heaviest activity was or is occurring to our northeast.  Talk about being fringed.  Looks like some training setting up.  This is great tent sleeping weather but there may be too many CG strikes to be comfortable with that!

Just drove from Calvert back to Germantown and saw quite the lightning show to the N and E.  Not a drop for the drive though.

While in Calvert this afternoon, I watched three storms train just 2-4 miles north of us over about an hour.  It was nice because we were able to sit out and enjoy mid 70s and a breeze instead of 90 like we had dreaded.  When we drove through Dunkirk (northern Calvert) on the way back, there was a thick fog hanging in the trees like a rainforest.  They must have really gotten drenched.
