Intensifying lows can have some very high snowfall rates and 2"+ per hour amounts wouldn't surprise me with this. Yea the Snow/Sleet line is often where the heaviest rates are. Looks like it'll be right over the metro area.

HVSnowLover
If there was blocking this would've been a monster you can see how much this is intensifying as it heads NE but it's too fast moving to really dump major totals

I think 6" is a lock here and 8" is possible, given the 7 pm (0Z) HRRR that just came out showing 6"+ more snow to come for much of CNJ (and having 1.75" OTG). As of 9 pm we have 2.25" of new snow: only 1/2" the past hour, as we had a bit of a lull, but it was ripping over the last 10 minutes and heavier snow looks like it's coming. 32F. It's stunningly gorgeous out there with everything sticking to the trees and little wind (could be a problem with power/trees, obviously, but it's pretty to look at). ILoveWinter
Still snowing and still rather wet in the UWS. The ghosts of March 2018 are lingering in Manhattan. On a serious note I do realize it is still early but hate to see wasted QPF.

gravitylover
31/29/SN-SN+ wind is ever so slightly out of the SSE, good growth for the last 2 hours or so as it's coming down at about 1"/hr. At this point I hope it snows until after midnight so I can say it snowed 5 days in a row here.

For the life of me I don't know why they cancelled NYC schools so early. It's March so it would have been prudent to make a decision in the early morning due to borderline temps. HVSnowLover
Lack of precip intensity seems to be a bigger issue then temps, we can't really evaluate this storm until the real heavy stuff gets here if it gets here but the models still say it will
Juliancolton
If people are already closing in on 5", there's no bust. The 8-10/10-12+ amounts were always going to be localized in the best-case scenario. Seems like wild over-performers are expected these days and anything short is a bust. 2
