bowtie`
Another night that looked almost like a carbon copy of the previous evening. Only this time there were a lot of fishermen out at the pond. Trouble was they brought their non-fishing kids with them. The kids were taking sticks and constantly whacking at the algae. Kind of messed up the reflections. Pre-sunset... Post-sunset... bowtie`
Looking southeast when I got to the pond this evening. Was the backside of the dryline that moved through earlier... Here is a view to the east but in this one I used the GND filter. You can tell from the increased contrast in the image... Post sunset color, what little there was... bowtie`
This evening had a little bit of cirrus. A lot of contrail remnants. One or two recent contrails. But what I was really trying to image was a slight sun pillar. Hopefully you can see it.

bowtie`
Two shots from the pre-sunset this evening. Looking south west... Looking north east...
bowtie`
The unofficial start of summer. The Indianapolis 500 is history and written in the books. Fire up the grills and put the tops down on the convertibles. Had a great day behind the viewfinder again here in Indiana. Started off with a vivid rainbow... The sunset... A close-up of the max color dynamics... Stick a fork in it. This evening is over...
bowtie`
Kind of threading the needle this evening. Had a little break right around sunset. Local sunset...
bowtie`
Been trying to get an image that shows the effect of all the smoke from the Canadian wildfires. Kind of hard to do. The satellite images do it better justice. But this evening A got two sort of decent images. In this one the sun is orange from all the smoke on the horizon while the clouds overhead are still white where you are looking through less smoke... In this one you can actually see the smoke in the blue part of the sky. Hopefully the reduction to fit on the server does no squash it...
bowtie`
Hooray! Finally mixed out most of the smoke. And even had a decent sunset for once. Good thing as the pattern looks to get wet again. Local sunset... Beginning of post sunset color... Extent of post sunset color... That's All Folks...
bowtie`
Was not entirely sold on the sunset being something to look at, but I was out at the pond just-in-case. Local sunset... I figured the color would be shut off rather rapidly, so I pointed more up into the sky and got just about all of the clouds I could get before they disappeared... I figured if there was any color it would be way on the horizon so I shifted over to the 100mm lens... As I was taking to above image the red started to take off. So I had yo do another emergency lens change back to the 16-35mm. While I did miss the brightest part of the red flash, I still got a decent amount of red. Not bad for a final image of the night...
bowtie`
This evening I could tell even from leaving work that the sunset should be a good color one. Mainly cirrus overhead with the system to the south of me still. My perceptions were verified. Local sunset... The view to the south east where the more serious clouds were... The extent of the color. Well as much as I could. This is at 16mm and it still could not record everything... The purples and reds and the last of the color.... Say goodnight Gracie. bowtie`
It was raining this evening so I did not go out to the pond. I was watching the hockey game instead. Lucky timing that right at the first intermission I noticed some color in the window shades. So I went out on the front porch and shot this even though it was still raining. So the quality is suffering here a little bit...
bowtie`
Was a busy day behind the viewfinder. Started off while doing yardwork I looked up and saw a nice 22 degree halo around the sun while it was close to the meridian... Then it was onto the evening. This was looking south east when I got out to the pond... A look west when I first got there... Local sunset... And ending the evening with the post sunset color...
bowtie`
I kind of figured the dry air was going to win this evening but I went out to the pond anyway. Some faint cloud shadows at the top of this image... Sun sneaking out again... Local sunset... Post sunset color, what little there was...
bowtie`
From the front porch again as I was not expecting any color at all this evening. But the atmosphere surprises from time to time.
bowtie`
Well this evening I had to sit out a brief downpour to get anything out at the pond. It was worth it in the end. Looking south east at the back side of the line of convection. Caught a decent cloud-to-cloud strike... Post sunset red color looking north east... Post sunset color looking north west...
bowtie`
Another approaching system evening. But there was a lot of cirrus which can be nice to look at.
bowtie`
Another time I was not planning on going out to the pond but a slight break up of the clouds on the western horizon close to sunset pulled me in for a quick shot...
bowtie`
I must be living right. A hole opened up over me just for the sunset. I probably should have mowed the yard but I think I made the right choice to head out to the pond instead. Some nice color tonight. Pre sunset... Local sunset... The orange... And last but not least, the red...
bowtie`
Conditions were very changeable today. But there was a little bit of color to the sunset. Local sunset... A little red down low... And a little red way up high...
bowtie`
Some cloud shadows when I got to the pond this evening... Close to local sunset with the Sun in the anvil of the stuff tio my north west... What little color post sunset there was...
bowtie`
Such a great variety of color this evening at the pond. When I got to the pond with some diffuse cloud shadows, especially in the upper right... Close to local sunset, I think. A great visual design... Now we get to the post sunset color. This is some red on the low level clouds in the upper left... Here is the last of the red with the upper level clouds. Normally I clone out all the lights from the warehouse but this time I left them. I did clone out the business name. Was not going to give them free advertising...
bowtie`
I knew that this evening might be a wash with a cell that was really close to the area. But I had to be there just in case. A turn in the atmosphere. Actually the top of the anvil of the cell that just missed to the west... The yellow of the post sunset was shot looking almost due north. I bet Lafayette had a fantastic sunset. That is just how close it was... The orange of the post sunset... The best of the red was from the backside of a cell that passed by an hour or two ago. Looking due east...
bowtie`
An afternoon cloud in isolation... The evening was not much. This is the best I could do...
bowtie`
I hate when sunsets are good like this. I can not make up my mind which image to share. So I just end up sharing way too much. Prepare to be bombarded. When I got out to the pond, looking south... Pre sunset... Local sunset... A bit of a searchlight going on here... Rope-a-dope orange/red from over head towards the horizon... Red flash the normal way, on the horizon... Hope I did not break your viewing device.
bowtie`
Tonight was a much simpler decision choice. Close to local sunset with the overhead still white... Max color overhead but it was only orange this evening... Extreme post sunset and some over-the-horizon cloud shadows. Probably from the top of the cells in Iowa... bowtie`
I had no plans to head to the pond. But leaving the eatery I saw that there might be a chance of a rainbow so I changed my mind. On the north side of town it was bone dry. When I got to the center of town, where I live, it was spitting a few drops. I grabbed the camera and started heading to the south side of town and the pond. The farther south I got the rain became steadier and the sun popped out. By the time I got to the south side park it was raining a decent clip and the rainbow was bright so I pulled over and snapped this... Glad I did stop there and take that as when I continued on, by the time I got to the pond it was raining too heavy for good rainbow conditions. But I did take a shot of the *hole* the Sun used to make that rainbow after the sunset sank below the cloud level... In both instances I was shooting through the open window of the car while the camera was still on the tripod. The tripod is just lying across the seat and it is hard to tell if I am level or not. Also with it raining in both images I apologize for any image quality degradation.
bowtie`
Oooops. It is after midnight. I have been late in processing this evening's photos. So those of you looking at this months later, these were taken on the evening of the sixth. Houston we are go for main engine start. Ignition! … Maxorange. And I am proud of this image because it has zero cropping. The way you see it is the way it came out of the camera other than cloning out a semi on the interste and the lights on the warehouse. … Some max red and blue with a little bit of violet thrown in... And this is extremely late. So late that the color at the top is all with incidental light. Reflected light off of the horizon gave me a second and very late *red* flash. Enjoy!
bowtie`
Tonight was all about the crepuscular rays and cloud shadows. Some of them quite vivid. This way... That way... Just a little bit of a search light on that tiny cloud in the upper left... Even some with the max color dynamics of the evening...
bowtie`
Looking at the visual satellite this afternoon, I thought there was a decent chance of a nice sunset this evening. When I got to the pond all the clouds were well on the horizon. Here is what it looked like post sunset with the 100mm... Once the Sun rolled over the horizon the cirrus overhead started getting illuminated. Do not ask about the focus here, operator error... Things got really wild with the red flash. Got some cloud shadows from over the horizon to add some spice... Conditions stayed good through the red passing to the horizon. It was so dark that the billboard even lit up... Well worth losing a little sleep over this.
