Gonna get pretty windy and with the saturated ground trees coming down could occur....gust 40-50 mph  outside of the mts, the usual places in the mts will gust even higher, Grandfather Mt should post up some extreme numbers as usual...winds from the south now so it wont be long and this wedge will be out of here.....be nuts if we actually get 76 today though its already low 70's at the beach as the warm front moves in....New Bern is 15 degrees warmer than MBY 40 miles away

Reached 29 this morning, first freeze in quite awhile.  GSP got down to 31 for first freeze since 2/14.

Not close to anymore freezes this month, so that will leave GSP with a grand total of just 5 mornings below freezing for all of Feb, with a monthly low of just 28. Those are both worse than last two record warm Febs.

For past 3 Febs combined, out of 84 total mornings, GSP has been below freezing just 17 times. The lowest reading each year was 28, 22, and 24. Safe to say the last three years Feb has been a met Spring month here.:(

Winds are still howling in excess of 100 mph atop Grandfather Mountain, but they have set a preliminary new max wind gust record of 124 mph. It's also worth noting that for the first time ever they measured a 1-minute sustained wind speed >100 mph, 103.2 mph at 12:51 AM #WNCwx

My daughter works on the mountain. She hates wind.  lol  Whenever it get this strong I usually send her the obs from Mt. Washington, NH to make her feel better.  For instance, Mt Washington's obs from 8pm tonight, temperature -9, humidity 100%, wind from the west at 132 mph, gusting to 148, wind chill -55. Light snow, freezing fog, blowing snow.  Pretty extreme but 13 mph less wind than at 7pm.

That makes Grandfather seem almost tropical.

KATL finished Feb +7.6° over the 141 year historical average and the month ranks #7 warmest all time.  The last three Februarys have ranked #2, #1, #7.  The DJF season was +4.6°, 11th warmest.  Not even a trace of snow was recorded for DJF 2018-19, only the 4th such season since 1928-29 and the first since 1949-50.  At 22.20" it was the 8th wettest.
