Great event today!  Another forecast challenge and an over achiever!  For as rough as this season started the last 3 1/2 weeks has been incredible.  No block busters... A thorn in our side with the lake freezing up it still has shaped up to a nice and now active winter.  Wish we kept this snow pack around instead of the constant thaws and rains... All in all I’m content at this point and have my winter fill until next fall.  Hard to measure with the drifting but averaging 5.0” from today.  Not bad for a forecasted non event.

It's hard to truly measure but 4 to 5 in Williamsville today...4 or 5 more than I was expecting. Puts me close to 100" on the year...january was a huge boost to the seasonal average. If we can get one or two more decent events 115 or at most 120 are not impossible.

Hwo

...Friday through Wednesday.

Another round of lake effect snow could bring several inches of
accumulation Friday night and Saturday

AFD

Friday night some widely scattered wraparound snow showers will
remain possible across our region...while lake snows continue
east and then southeast of both lakes on a slowly veering low level
flow. Off Lake Erie these should remain rather minor given the
extensive ice cover on lake...a low cap of 3-4 kft...shortening
fetch...and shallow background moisture...all of which should keep
additional accumulations light. Off Lake Ontario it should be a
different story as a higher cap and deeper moisture will be in place
with the flow also remaining aligned more closely with the long axis
of the lake...all factors that should allow for a more organized
band to sink southward from the Tug Hill region to Oswego and
Northern Cayuga counties. This should allow for at least a few
additional inches of accumulation...and possibly amounts worthy of a
winter weather headline. Otherwise winds will gradually relax as the
supporting area of low pressure pulls further away from our region...
with overnight lows settling back into the upper teens to lower
20s.

Snowfall reports so far..

Yeah. Idk. This pattern looks rough. It’s that damn driving pacific jet. It just won’t stop.

In a really weak nino. I don’t understand weather. There are just too many factors that go into forecasting long range patterns. We’ve had a pretty good winter in WNy. But for those that enjoy snowfall preservation, it’s been terrible. Late November was when we had the longest snowpack.

Channel 9 on their 5 o’clock news tonight is showing a feature titled “Life on the Tug”.  They’re going to be featuring local residents, including Carol, describing what it’s like living on the Tug Hill Plateau. I’m assuming our resident Tug inhabitants are not included which is too bad because I’m sure they could add some interesting perspectives!
