January 29, 2019 Snow Event and January 30th Snow Squall Discussion and Obs

Ok, changed to snow.  I can hardly contain my excitement.

Yep, no sooner than I posted that wet flakes started to mix in, 36F.

I went from rain, to snow, to the ground being covered in a matter of 10 minutes! Mod snow now, 35F.

Just changed to snow here too, temp. went from 36.3F to 34.7F. WooooHoooo Baby!!! It's even still light enough out to see it.....lots of nice fat flakes coming down. (Keep editing the current temp. as it's dropping nicely).

Same here, due to the wet grass it's sticking to it nicely and already turning white here .

As of 5pm at 2.8" of snow in East Nantmeal Township and still moderate snow falling with a temp at 33.2 - 0.5" of snow since last obs (driveway and road covered see attached)

The roads are complete garbage right now. I had to go to West Chester @ about 2:30 and I crossed the rain/snow line several times on my way there and back, then I drove into an all snow nightmare with the roads covered in paste. Unfortunately, the only way to get from where I was back to my house requires going down a super steep, winding slope into the valley. Throw in a crapton of school buses and side roads choked with parked soccer moms taking up half the road in their giant SUVs and you turn a 30-minute ride into a 2 hour ride.

Just popped back in from flipping my car wipers up but currently 39 here with temp starting to creep down and rain.  Up to 0.11" of rain so far.  Rain/snow line is moving this way from the NW though.

Edit - just ticked down to 38.

Btw DC is crushing it 3" already and about to get blitzed. Who remembers when this was first on the map near a week ago and i said blizzard conditions in DC and rain in Philly never ever happening lol

I heard recent discussion about the Weather Channel taking over Intellicast and ruining it, yeah they were right it's gone to crap was looking at a radar not even current.

Temp is down to 35 here now and still getting rain although some might be white rain (hard to tell).  Up to 0.14" rain.

Took several measurements and came up with 3" and still moderate snow in Northern Lanc. Co.

Now getting some snow mixing in with the rain and also some fog. Temp down to 34 and still falling.  Rain/snow line is bouncing around the western borders of the city.

Just drove from reading up 222 to 78 back to the Easton area. What would normally take an hour took two. 78 was surprisingly bad.

East Nantmeal Township looks like last heavy band moving through now 3.3" as of last measurement at 6:30pm - temp still at 32.9 above freezing for almost all of the accumulation today - on all surfaces - shows you do not always need below freezing temps to have snow accumulate. Will take final measurement after this ends.

29 4.25” just light flurries, this storm reminded me of the November storm heavy rates for a short time. At least it’ll be around for a few days

Temp has been holding at 34 for the past hour or so.  Currently getting some drizzle (not seeing any flakes and no accumulation anywhere here in NW Philly yet). Rain up to 0.15" so far.  Looks like the back edge is around Lancaster now.

Final measurement of 4.5" here.

Yearly total up to 15". Going to need about 18 more inches in February and March to get to normal!
