At 1240 PM EST, an arctic front was crossing the region. The front will cross the Baltimore and Washington metro areas during the early and middle afternoon hours. Along the front a quick burst of intense snow is likely. A quick snow accumulation of less than one inch is possible, mainly on grassy surfaces. Winds will gust up to 50 mph, and temperatures will fall 5 to 10 degrees. Falling temperatures and wet roads may create icy spots. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Be prepared for areas of blowing snow. This could lead to temporary very low visibilities and the potential for dangerous driving conditions. If you are traveling and encounter adverse winter driving conditions, reduce speed and make sure headlights are on. Also be alert for icy areas after the front passes and temperatures fall. batmanbrad
squall has just arrived here in northeast Montgomery Village, I'm just west of Laytonsville and a couple of miles north of the MoCo muni airport.

Yea, we got some really nice storms after that front but it was a one of a kind flip from crap to great. I literally couldn't see my neighbor's house across the street. After it shut off temps cliffed and then we went on a heater. Unforgettable. ha, i liked it, but i gotta put feb 21 over it. that was one of my all time favorite overachieving storms here. that squall was rare, though. just caked snow for 2 hours. 09-10 analogy
Western sky is getting that lowering (semi-)ominous look you see with summertime lines. Yeah, that refreshed my memory of the 2015 squall: the duration of it. Must have kept going for 40 minutes or so.
Bob Chill
Roaring winds and flakes flying in rockville now. Stepped outside and decided a dog walk wasn't happening.
batmanbrad
does kind of look like lower MoCo and DC won't get too much from this band, and it's booking east so won't last long in any one area. But I'll take what I can get!

jayyy
10 minutes ago, 87storms said: simply put, that squall was legendary. it was essentially lake effect snow for an hour. probably about twice as heavy as the final band that came through yesterday. Times like this I miss being in buffalo. 2-3 feet of LES downtown with temp of 1 degree. Unreal. This is a mini weak LES band at best, but I’ll take another inch toward climo! BlizzardNole
That was a real nice squall in Germantown; temp down to 22. I don't know how you'd measure this -- might be a quarter inch or so. Based on radar, I'd love to see what it was like around Mt. Airy.
adelphi_sky
And just like summer, it will be a miss! My goodness wasted 45 minutes watching radar loops just to get fringed by a line clearly aiming for the district. I'll probably experience a flizzard. MN Transplant
There is an actual outflow boundary being thrown off of this thing. Nice. The 2015 event was similarly much, much better in MD than in VA/DC. It was fun for a couple of minutes here, but we ended up with 0.2" plastered on everything.
