Danajames
Snow was a complete bust for the most part in my neck of the woods here in southern Harford County. All we got was a dusting after a moderate rain most of the day. Areas north and west of here by only about 8 miles picked up around 2-3". Shows you how just a little increase in elevation can make a big difference in the rain to snow events.

Some commute from far west of Dulles, which hit freezing at 3 pm. Leaving DC at 1:30, those in Sterling barely had time to get home first. I think OPM also feared a repeat of Carmageddon (26 Jan 2011), where I bolted early and barely could see through the ice forming on my windshield to cross the Potomac and slide home. Those who waited for OPM to make the call were SOL. I am teleworking so I'll put a full day in rather than going in 2-3 hour late. Down to 11 degrees and streets, which were not treated, are a sheet of ice. MCPS closed just as I'm typing this. Hoping for a squall later! winterymix
All the models show the squall line on west side DC-Balto around 17Z. Some many schools opening 2 hours late -- some many kids being dismissed from school one to three hours after the squall covers strteets with a thin sheet of ice for the kids' rides home.
