So Rockville is higher elevation than DC? Well, your whopping 400 feet of elevation may explain why you have snow and DC is rain...lol

Nothing but cold rain here in NE Baltimore City...

The fall line of the piedmont is a legitimate climo dividing line with marginal events (which are really common). It runs just west of I-95 and even though it's only a few hundred feet increase, it makes a big difference on occasion. DC and Baltimore also have a pronounced UHI effect which is another common issue that divides yards just 10 miles apart.

Technically doesn't it actually run through DC, with erosion accounting for the current position of Great Falls?

We can take the deeper discussion to the banter thread, but the fall line in DC only scrapes the far northwest part.  Once you get pass east from the Nebraska - Colorado Ave corridor you're on the coastal plain.

Don't want to derail the obs thread but the technical definition has more to do with geology than elevation. The NW corner of DC is a lot different in both geology and elevation compared to southern and eastern DC. Sometimes upper northwest gets double what the area around the mall gets.
